Nice To See Ortiz Let Boston Media & Beancounters & Boston Fans Have it!

Most Red Sox fans Gave up on Ortiz and wanted to "spend the money elsewhere", One Poster claimed he could no longer hit LP

The antithesis of non-producing good ole boys like Wastefield and Varitek, Ortiz has embarrassed posters who claimed he could no longer hit LP well enough to warrant a roster spot, or since on the roster, needed to sit v most LP and bat lower in the order.

This winter, most Red Sox fans wanted to "spend the money elsewhere", and called Ortiz washed up back in 2009 and 2010. Despite finishing up with elite league DH production years for 2009, 2010 and 2011, the pride, prejudice and bigotry has always been forefront among the substantial majority of Red Sox fans and the media.

The fact is that Ortiz takes a popularity back seat to good ole boys like Varitek and Wastefield, and the soon to be departing for a FA contract and usually on the shelf, Ellsbury.

Ortiz is owed an apology from most Red Sox fans. He remains the face of the franchise. Along with another despised former Red Sox pitcher, Curt Schilling, these two core players did more for the Red Sox brand than any other player in the last two decades. On a team whose fan base is made up of hypocritcal leftist elite and Big Labor & Bureaucrat fans who live segrated intimate lives while pandering rhetoric and something from others for nothing for ethnic minority votes, it comes as no surprise to see Ortiz receive the bigoted reception in Boston.

That Ortiz's request for a 2 year contract at around 25 million was turned down is consistent with the way middle management has treated him. He has made the brand more money than the franchise will ever pay to him!

Fortunately, John Henry has remained loyal to Ortiz, as, otherwise, prior and current middle management most certainly would have "spent all or some of the money elsewhere".

Ortiz has stated that he will retire after playing 2 more years. Needless to say, he won't be hanging around off of good will, like a parasite, long after he is no longer productive enough to warrant an active roster spot. The Red Sox need to show some class and offer Ortiz a one year extension with a year 2 team option and substantial buyout and player opt out provisions that insure that Ortiz is treated well and allowed to retire with the Red Sox at the end of 2014, or play one final season off a one year FA contract for any AL team he chooses.

David Ortiz, this poster never waivered in his support for you and the importance you bring to the Red Sox, and this poster salutes you for surviving the lack of appreciation and the uncalled for abuse during the slow starts of 2009 and 2010.

Is this a tough town to play in when the criticism comes raining down?  Sure!

Does Papi suffer the slings & arrows or outrageous fortune?  Hardly!

Papi is easily one of the most beloved players on this team, not to mention in Red Sox history!  In the LONG & STORIED Red Sox HISTORY!  Now that's saying something.  Do I blame him for feeling a little sensitive considering all he has given Red Sox fans?  NOPE!  Might Papi get hammered by less than 1% of The Nation on rare occasions?  Sure.  Does the 99% of Red Sox Nation heep praise upon Papi on a regular basis, especially this season?  Absolutely.

Is HankWilliams, aka Softy / betterdead / ???  smart enough to distinguish between one or two vocal posters on the internet and REALITY?????

    Obviously NOT!

p.s.   Most of what Softy writes is the proverbial "straw man" argument.  He obsessively constructs every argument to illustrate the "hypocritical absurdity of the FAR LEFT WING NUTJOBS!" Do these "wingnuts" deserve to be tweaked? Absolutely!!!!

The sad & disgusting thing about Softy is the FACT that HE simply illustrates the absurdity of the FAR RIGHT WING NUTJOBS!   Softy is simply nothing more than a physics lesson.  Every action creates an equal & opposite reaction.

    GROW UP SOFTY!

The funny thing he is beloved. No one is Boston brings up the steroid issue or questions his resurgence. If he was Beckett this would be brought up daily. He is clearly upset someone leaked the meeting.

    "any ideas"

    Yes.

Pitifully incompetent to trade Youk now. Youk doesn't decide where he plays, under the CBA. Youk needs to be put into LF. If he improves his plate numbers over several weeks, he should be retained until such time as the Red Sox trade for Justin Upton type of profile. What Cherry needs to do, that he doesn't have a clue on, is this team is not a contender as currently constructed.

For now, Youk should be ordered to play LF, assuming the reports that he expressed wishes not to be placed there. He should not be traded until such time as the trade for a young star RH OF'er is made, and then, only if platoon profile Ross comes off the DL. Even if he retruns to decent numbers, Youk's trade value will be so low that his value is better retained unless the team is out of playoff contention or a profile like Upton is acquired and Ross returns healthy and ready for platoon duty.

Crawford is likely due back towards the end of June. Once Crawford comes off the DL, the following roster players should be on the trade block for a young star RH OF'er like Justin Upton (DBacks have age 29 RH OF Chris Young off to excellent 2012 start, Upton off to poor 2012 start):

Ellsbury (Current Trade Value is high 1.5 years)
Aviles (Current Trade Value is fair)
if DBacks require more, add up to 2 Blocked prospects @ 2B, 3B, SS & OF + 1 SP prospect (Iglesais should take over SS once Aviles is traded, Bradley should be retained, Kalish should be retained, Lavarnway should be retained, and if the Dbacks demand a top Red Sox pitching prospect instead of settling for any Red Sox pitching prospect but Barnes and Ranaudo, retain Barnes and include Ranaudo

Perhaps you could go back to tweaking liberals?  At least you're comfortable there.  Now you just sound like you're desperately grasping at the pieces of straw from your "strawman" argument.

Get rid of Avilles?  You're such a genius?????   LOL

David Ortiz is in the pantheon of Boston legendary sports figures.  I'd venture to say that at Sox games, home or away, the good majority of Sox jerseys are still  Ortiz-34.  And people go crazy for Papi when he comes to the plate.  And when he is signing autos pre-game, the biggest swarms are to this day still all around David.  I am saying this based on my real life experience as a Sox fan.  Not from behind the computer in the Carolinas somewhere.  When is the last time you saw a Sox game live?  Or talked to Boston fans not on this board?  Why would anyone take your opinion seriously when your only exposure to Boston and Boston fans, and red sox baseball on the whole, is from behind your CPU keyboard down in the Carolinas somewhere?  What do you really know about how Sox fans see David Ortiz?  And before you talk of how fans were burying him in April and May of his slow start years 09 and 10, were the only opinions you were taking on the matter from this ridiculously hyper-critical forum?

    Right on Euph!

The thing way to many on this board don't get about Softy???  He's not a Sox fan!!!!   Quite the contrary!  He reads about "Liberal Boston" on his political sites, i.e. Politico, and observes his despised Mass. Liberal politicians, i.e. Teddy K, and he has decided to turn his myopic baseball knowledge, and stereotypical image of the 1970's "RACIST" Boston Red Sox fan, against Boston fans.

His entire existence on BDC is to shove his tired old perceptions of "Liberal" Boston up our arsses.  It's actually quite comical.  This guy is soooooooooo incredibly obsessed with the FAR LEFT in America, that he has completely constructed this HankWilliams (a pathetic political statement) / Softy persona to "combat" his personal nightmarish "bugaboo."

It would actually be quite pathetic if it wasn't so damned funny!  :)

There is no evidence "he failed a drug test". His name was leaked from a court ordered sealed administrative uring testing canvass that was not specific as to what and why.

He is, by far, not even close to a popular player on the team. Amusingly, it is Ellsbury who has been compared to Ted Williams. Ortiz has been compared to no one, other than bigoted Boston fans like to whine about "spending the money elsewhere" when it came to Ortiz's last contract option and following FA contract market.

Papi remains one of the most beloved sports figures in Boston history. Not simply Red Sox history, but Boston history. His comments were directed toward the media and front office, not the fans.

I like a player for what he does for our team, don't care what color his skin is.  I'm white and I'm all over Beckett and he's white. George Scott was one of my favorite players.
