    No Worries!

If we played .500 ball the rest of the way, Tampa would have to go 18-4 just to tie us.
So, unless we just have a complete meltdown, and this team is too good to have that happen IMO, we are guaranteed WC winners.
Once in the PS, anything can happen but our pitching needs to be solid. Hopefully Beckett's ankle is just a mild strain and he only misses one start.
Last night we faced an unknown and historically, the RS do not fare well against someone they haven't seen. I believe we will see a strong outing from Lester tonight and the offense put some runs on the board.

Did your anti-depressant medicine finally arrive in the mail. First it was Zillagod who did the complete about-face and now you. Did you change your stripes to be contrary or are you just lonely with the sparse crowd in here on a bleak day?

A very good post.  Thanks for lending some perspective on a day when it's easy to be "down" about this team's chances.

Thats the spirit Ike.  You added a little Tigger to your Eyore soup this morning.  For my taste, I just don't see the point of conceding even the division yet.  If the club stays right here until the Bronx in a couple weeks, all good.  Sure, much hinges on the severity of Beckett's sprain.  I hate whenever I hear that a Sox player is 'seeing a specialist'.  But, if it is mild, then, hey, it gives him some rest.

your presumption that we do 500 baseball and the rays need 18-4 to tie may be valid, but we play TB 7 more times, it's time to sweat bro

Agree Spaceman, the Division is the prize and by no means am I saying we should settle for the WC. But let's face it, getting to the PS is the goal and like I said, anything can happen after that.
It would be a monumental choke to not hold the WC, leading by 7 games with 22 to play.

Yeah.  But, still 7 games with the Rays to go.  Club has to get back on the good foot ... so to speak.  I am confident they will.  This season, through all the injuries and struggles, has been on of horrible swoons followed by kick-azz periods of baseball that last much longer than the swoons.  hence, the 96-98 win pace.  We've got another explosion of kick-azz coming Ike.

alibi, and you are rightfully named.

even if the math favors the SOX, do you honestly believe that they have any chance of making it to the WS?
hell, they won't make it thru the 1st round.

btw, i still believe they won't make it to the playoffs, no matter how many alibis you come up with. this team has 4 flat tires.

Rays must sweep Boston. Because that would mean 7 games in the standing. A 5 - 2 series ending total only means 3 games in the standings. Rays are not sweeping the last 7 games.

Wierd how we can have a tremendous offensive explosion one day and handcuffed the next.
Frankly, I think instead of trying to wait a pitcher out to get to the pen, we should be more aggressive the 2nd time through the line-up. We tend to employ a defensive offense.

It's called pitching, Ike. Good or bad, It is the over-riding factor in baseball.

I nominate Alibiike to be the new GM, pitching coach, hitting coach, and manager. He is astonishing with his intelligence and baseball insight. What a shame that the inept ones are in charge.

For the post season we need both lester & beckett to show command, have Buch back for quality holds, a continuance of good relief, and 5 or so consistent batters who drive in runs---Gonzalez, Papi, Els, Yook, Pedey...
