    NYY get Ells, but....

    Whats their rotation look like?

CC - aging and coming off a bad year

    Nova - inconsistent

    Pineda - always hurt

    Phelps - who?

    Warren - who?

no closer - no more Mo

Sorry guys, but unless they get a couple solid starters and a true closer its all for nothing. they might have a better lineup with Ells, but their rotation and bullpen are very questionable. Im sure they arent done yet, but will need much better pitching than what they currently have.

pitching wins championships as we saw this year and in years past.

They can have Ellsbury for 22M per.

I knew he'd get over $20M/yr from a desperate GM.

Makes you wonder who was going to come close to what Cashman offered.

They NEED pitching. Im sure they arent done, but 22M for a speed guy? Thats just dumb business.

Word is there are a number of people in the NYY organization that dont like this deal, and I dont blame them.

I love Ellsbury and was hoping somehow he'd return. But that is one ridiculous deal. I'm sure he'll be worth the money for two years,  maybe even three,  but then ... well,  we've seen this movie before.

10-1 he does time on the DL next season.  They've a catcher and a centerfielder now, so far not much  pitching as sp points out.

I hope you guys are right. With all my heart, I hope this is a bad deal for them. I just don't trust that they won't just sign all the other pieces they need, and Ellsbury is just an added bonus.

Please Cano, be insulted they stopped talking to you, and signed a huge contract. Go somewhere else.

Its not like Ellsbury is simply an addition. He is replacing Granderson, for the most part, and Granderson's OPS is better than Ellsbury's. Even Gardner, who played CF a lot for the EE last year, had an OPS just 22 points less than Ellsbury's OPS last year. Ellsbury is a very good complimentary piece, but he cannot carry a team, and he sure as hell is not worth those years and that money.

THe Yankee have what, 7 players making $17mill or more and only one of them is a pitcher?

Ellsbury, Wells, Soriano, Teixeira, Sabathia, McCann, and A-Rod.

And please don't bring up A-Rod's suspension.  It's for 2014 if he gets the max; he is signed through 2017.

I just answered you / this in the other thread

got to say I'm surprised / disapointed this is  coming form you 777

do you really think the yanks  don't know they need pitching

Bcash is all ready on record as saying he's looking for 2 200 inning guys

yanks have a lot of holes to fill but as far as starters go

I  think the yanks and other GM's as well as the big FA arms

are all waiting for the tanaka biding to get done

also still waiting on kuroda and then if they fail there they go with a garza or a jimenez

yanks also need to wait for arod and cano news B4 they can address the BP and other holes

It's not as if the Sox payroll is mere pittance, but it will be a nice storyline to see the if the Rays end up with a better record than the NYY with 1/4th the payroll again Cool  Heck, let's keep an eye on the A's, KC, Pittsburgh, Cleveland while we're at it.

The NYY will get Crawford-ed + $13M - no way is JE worth that kind of money.  Insane.

I love when Zac says he's disappointed in someone who says anything that can be considered negative about the Yankees. Such a transparent attempt at controlling conversation here.

Baseball is a joke when it comes to PEDs and steroids. I mean Melky Cabrera is the belle of the ball no matter his past. They just keep throwing awards at him. It's unreal. He's lauded like he never even had a problem. It really shouldn't be that way if they REALLY want to change anything.

The yankees are going to get more pitching - watch.  It will start with the Japanese guy and then they will probably sign two more.

Lots of folks are saying "when will Yanks learn..." type of stuff.

They did learn.  Look at their last championship.  They went out and spent like crazt and won the WS.

The idea that we are going to see financial ruin for the yankees is silly.  They have no spending limit.  None.  So when they take the Red Sox CF who bats lead off and is one of the top CF in baseball, there is NO UPSIDE for Red Sox.

Please don't convince yourself that the Yankees can't afford pitching.

And they will resign Cano if they can't get Phillips to play 2B

Although the Yankees have made statements about not wanting to be above the tax limit, I don't think that anyone would be wise to bet against them spending well above said limit in 2014.

They already have numerous $20 M players and some other guys who are well above $10 M without even considering Cano or Kubota or guys to replace them or make additions to their pitching staff.

I am sure that the Red Sox always plan on playing a very well paid Yankees team every single year, so what difference does it make if the Yankees are over the tax limit on yearly salaries?

And you dont think theyll throw gobs of money at this and fix it? Just remember what they did in the offseason prior to 2009 after the ignominy of not making the playoffs in 2008. They are the Yankees, theyll fix this and be as annoying as ever. Ellsbury is a bum for this, and I wont cut him any slack for it, ever.
