    Salem did have a chance in the top of the ninth, but with runners at first and second with one out, Sean Coyle bounced into a 1-6-3 double play, sending the Sox to their fifth consecutive loss.

    Danny Santana was caught at first base for the final out after rounding the bag too far, and the Sea Dogs edged the New Britain Rock Cats 3-2 Sunday.

    First baseman Travis Shaw chased down the ball in shallow right field and fired to pitcher Brock Huntzinger, who applied the tag as Santana tried to dive back to the base.

    Mike McCarthy has pitched very well as a starter, going 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA in three starts, with 16 strikeouts and just one walk in 15 innings so far this season.

    For the season, Cecchini’s .376 average is far and away the best in the league, 45 points better than Carolina’s Francisco Lindor, who’s in second.
