Red Sox need to make a trade???

I know they are doing pretty well but in my opinion they need to help their pitching staff and maybe RF. I am not dumping on Drew but they could upgrade there and he is in last year of his deal anyway.
So here is the question and you can post any ideas you have as to the deal they should/could make... lets make it a realistic deal nothing stupid please.

I want to get rid of Drew also, but realistically...who would want an overpaid defensive specialist who bats .235?

I wouldn't trade anyone. The bullpen could use help, but nobody's selling anything better than what we have right now. They should be able to get someone later on, when the small market teams start planning for next year, but I wouldn't part with any real good picks or prospects. There just aren't going to be any quality arms available, teams usually dump the overpaid guys who are not performing...too risky.

The RF platoon of Cameron and Drew is something we are stuck with unless one of them gets hurt and Reddick becomes the full time guy , but we don't need to address this right now. The offense has proven it can score plenty of runs even without the RF position contributing much of anything.

"why do so many people think this team need to make trades when it's in 1st place."

perhaps because of losing 2 of 3 to a triple A franchise at home.
also, because the SOX have more injuries than a MASH unit and that will continue through out the season.

Last time I looked The Padres were a Major League team and what is your rationale for guarenteeing that The Red Sox will "have more injuries than a MASH unit" for the remainder of the year. Oh, you must be a seer, right?

The goal is not to win the east but the 'series' and why not try to improve on obvious weaknesses i.e. rf the front end of the bullpen they could use rh bat of the bench I'm not talking about major deals here but sometimes the little deals pay big dividends. Who would have thought acquiring Dave Roberts in '04 would have had such an impact in their eventual championship. Baseball is somewhat unique in that marginal players can have a huge say in the outcome of a game and just an aside you can be sure the Yankees are not going to stand pat so the Sox slim lead is precarious at best

Theo will acquire a long term young RH OF'er, once his current non-fits return to career averages. He likes to wite off sunk cost and pay a premium, once the entire world knows his players' limits. If Theo sees a player coming off of a career high season, he'll be the first in line to outbid and contract that FA. Theo has redefined the paradigm for effective GM'ing.

while I do share your concern for losing two games to a crappy team....I don't think you justify making a trade based off of two games.   The best teams in the league lose games it happens.  Every 100 game winner has lost 62,  every year first place teams lose to good teams, heck I remember when NY got swept by Washington (2009).....it happens.

While the Sox do have some injuries, every team has injuries every year....however it is unlike last year when it was not only excessive but it happened to a lot of key players.  We are getting Buccholz back soon, Crawford back soon.  Jenks hasn't even contributed this year and he's out, Dice-K is out but he hasn't helped this team out either......2011 is not 2010.

With that said I'd still like to see Theo make a move, there is always a need for upgrade, especially heading into the second half of the season.  a RH RF or at least a RH off the bench and a good bullpen arm would make me happy.

Make a trade for either a long term RHH OF who hits all pitching well, or solid platoon guy who hits lefties and plays the OF well.

    Suggestions?

I don't know of too many teams who are going to cough up a RHH OF who hits all pitching well.

Because that would be stupid unless that player is making way too much money.

    Hey ZILLAGOD,

Scott Podsednik would have been the perfect siging by Theo but the Philles grabbed him.  Scott is a left hand batter but hits all pitching very well

A RH OF.  Someone like Willingham when he's healthy.  Short commitment, probably draft comp when finished.  If you want to go slightly bigger, maybe Beltran if he's healthy on 7/31.

I was thinking the same thing a few days ago.  He won't break the bank with $ or prospects and he'd also be a big upgrade from what we have been getting from the position, I also think Fenway and a Boston lineup may actually help him and bring his numbers back up.

If the A's become sellers this is also a very realistic idea as opposed to many of the fantasy trades that have been thrown around in here. IMO

Hmmm, Over the past five years Drew is one of the most productive RF in MLB. He will come around. Lot of baseball left.

We can always use more pitching

Theo should always be on the lookout, but I see no compelling need for a trade short of dumping Drew, Cameron, or McDonald, which is very unlikely.

Theo's on the lookout for another bargain like Gagne, to replace the bargain on Jenks.

They are .5 game ahead but that's with an 8-1 record against the Yankees. If you think they are going to continue that dominance over the Yankees, think again.

Remember a couple of years ago they did the same thing and the Yanks beat them out eventually and the Sox didn't make the playoffs.

If they don' make a trade but can at least bench Cameron and McDonald for the rest of the year I'd be happy.
