Actually we don't know the names Bill...why don't you share with us?  Who is on the DL that would introduce better production in the line-up...unless you are speaking specifically of Aceves last night?

Still wishin' and hopin' for that all-star roster? Good for you, dream on!

I have spoken volumes about the NAMES/PLAYERS that will not carry this team to where we need to go.......  CATCHER, Salty is not a defensive catcher, lousey !!  SS 9.5 million reasons that he is here, howeveaa, just another fill in with the glove, never mind the bat ......... WEBSTER ?? Why on earth is he still down on the FARM ?? DEFENSE & SPEED, was removed to make room for (guess who) PAPI......  J F need the best players available for pitching, defense & speed.....  Aceves ?? Salty ?? Drew ??

I don't care who they bring in to go along with Ross......  Watching SALTY behind the plate is like watching a "pony League" game !!!!  This & Drew at SS continues to give the other teams extra outs !!!

Current team is tied for the best record in the AL.  We are not yet into May, of course, but right now it's hard to see a justification for wholesale tinkering as suggested by Bill-806.

Most of us still want Bradley and Iglesias brought back, but don't mind waiting and seeing how the current lineup goes.  Bill-806 has conveniently ignored, for example, that two very good things happened when Bradley stopped playing LF even before he went to AAA--Nava got into the lineup and has done very well with his opportunity.  The other good thing is the return of Ortiz, who has semi-miraculously been hitting far better than any of us should have expected because he had no real ST and very little rehab time.  I like Bradley a lot, but right now I would much rather see Nava in LF, Ellsbury in CF, and Victorino in RF.

Drew continues to play errorless ball at SS and can be reasonably expected to get better at the plate.  Tons of writers, including both moonslav and Peter Abraham of the Globe, have said they prefer Iglesias but are more than willing to give Drew a shot because his defense is above average (not as good of course as Iglesias's) and his hitting should come around.

Salty is a pain, I agree, but Lavarnway has definitely struggled at the MLB level.  Signing Ross was a smart move, even with his low OPS.

Good Points..... Nava has done a good job, he is quite a story and I love the guy at the plate......  PAPI, fact is, out side of his "base hits", the team speed has been reduced big time since his return .... Actually hurting the team speed, can't stand watching him trying to "hit Thru" the shift !!!

Bill......you need to stop.  While I agree Aceves is downright brutal and would love to see Iggy back....NOBODY will be trading for these two unless they produce.  We need another starter but we do have Lackey coming back and he has looked very solid so far in spring and in rehab.  With Lester, Buch, Demp and Lackey pitching well.....we may have enough SP to get us closer to the trading deadline. AS for the 'speed factor'.  You need to get on base to make it count...Bradley was downright awful when he played (sad to say....but it is true).  Papi laready has more hits this season than Bradley and the same amount of hits as Iggy after he got sent down.  Yes it's painful to watch him run....but it has not hurt the team.  Poor hitting with RISP and some untimley balls left over the plate is what has hurt us recently....not Papi.

Yep. Speed was removed to accommodate the best DH in MLB sinse Edgar Martinez. Guilty as charged. Napoli is slower than Ortiz but no compaints there. And w/ them side-by-side in the order, they're hardly clogging-up the base paths. If speed so happens to be the deciding factor in a game, they have this thing called a "Pinch-Runner". You won't find that in baseball 101, btw, that's in Baseball...An Introduction.

There you go, complain about Aceves. That would be the smarter bet. I look forward to your 30+ threads complaining about him.

Bill......who do we move??  We can't trade under-performing players since nobody will take them.  That means we have to move somebody who is performing and I really can't think of anybody.  The only person that could be moved is Salty since most teams would like a catcher....but then he gets replaced with Lava...who has done nothing here and would not be an improvement.  Moving a SS or catcher will not get Webster here......and we are stuck with Aceves for the time being....

Nobody is getting moved until the deadline...so just deal with what we have now and you can also be happy looking toward the future with the prospects coming up full time next year and for the next few years.

Drew cant be traded until June 15th, so just everyone please STOP with that nonsense. If you knew what you were talking about you would have known that. Aceves is better in the pen, hes just a spot starter. he gave us 2 solid games and one stinker. No biggie. Lackey will be back and Ace will go back to the pen. Salty is a better choice over Lavarnway so hes going nowhere. Vasquez will be the next catcher on this team. Hes already proving he can handle AA, which is a very good sign.
Webster has 10IP above AA ball. Id rather he build up his IP and finish his development in AAA and be called up if needed.
Papi has hit the ball better than most here thought (some actually thought he was "DONE"" altogether). papi hit a nice opposite field wall ball the other night so the power will be there. Nava has done great, Victorino, Naps have all done great and are proving smart moves by Ben.

Patience is almost non-existent with some of you guys. Its funny, because most here thought they were a .500 team at best, and those same folks are not satisfied even though they're doing better than they thought. Just sit back and enjoy the game.

Re: So BEN, opportunity knocks at a few positions, just waiting decisions........

I'm still trying to figure out how team speed has been reduced since Papi has been back. Even if he's walking around the bases, he's faster than anyone who's not on base. Bradley was on base nine times in 12 games. Ortiz has already been on base eight times in three games. I compared those two players since Bill likes to do that, but he needs to read lesson four below.

And after reading all of bill's posts, I've decided that bill isn't trying to cause trouble. He just doesn't know baseball. So I'm here to help and educate.

    LESSON 1:

Even the best sluggers won't hit home runs EVERY game. There was nothing wrong with Ortiz's power in recent years yet in the past three years he started the season by needing eight game or 12 games to hit his first home run. And in between, he hit one home run in his first two games then did not hit his third until a month later. So panicking after just three games that Ortiz hasn't hit a home run is simply a waste of time.

    LESSON 2:

Ortiz has six hits. Two are doubles. Doubles aren't singles. When Ortiz hits a single, he stops at first. When he can run to second on a hit, that's called a double. Bill seems to like to make sweeping decisions on small samples. If we were to do that with Ortiz, if he plays in 130 games, he'd be on a pace for 90 doubles and 90 RBIs. The 90 doubles aren't going to happen, but illustrating something is the best way to learn. But as you can see, if 1/3 of your hits are doubles -- that's a good thing.

    LESSON 3:

Just because a player is a top prospect, it doesn't mean he's ready. Buchholz hurled a no-hitter in his second start but it still took another couple of years for him to finally settle in as a consistent pitcher. In 2008, he got the shot to be starter at the start of the year and after a good start, he struggled and had to go back to the minors before finally getting things worked out. So while Webster looked good and very well might help later in the season, it's not a bad thing to give him a bit more seasoning in the minors considering the Sox have a proven veteran coming back Sunday (probably). Getting more experience in the minors isn't a bad thing. And I fully expect him to be back up some time this year.

LESSON 4 FOR BILL (AND THIS ONE IS VERY IMPORTANT):

Ortiz isn't costing Bradley a roster spot. If Bradley started the season by hitting .450 and producing like he was in spring training, it was very possible Bradley would have stayed. Nava or Carp would have been the odd man out. Ortiz doesn't play LF. Bradley isn't a DH. Those two can very well be on the same team together. Good teams often have a combination of speed and power. If you're really a baseball fan like you claim, you should be rooting for Bradley to be back as soon as he can AND for Ortiz to be hitting at the top of his game. That will truly make the Sox an exciting team.

I can understand wanting a young, exciting player with Bradley's potential over Ortiz. Really, I can understand it. But are you advocating having Nava or Carp over Ortiz?

(After a slow start, Bradley is now 6-for-15, so if he can keep it up, he'll be back sooner, rather than later. Personally, I can't wait to have Bradley and Ortiz in the lineup together.)

    LESSON 5:

Players are in their roles for a reason. There were many posters who wanted Aceves in the rotation. As we've seen, Aceves has excelled as a long reliever but didn't cut it as a closer and is mediocre at best and maybe not even that as starter. As a long reliever, I can live with him there. When Morales or Breslow is ready, I have no problems if Aceves is the odd man out. In fact, I'm leaing for him or Miller to be the odd man out. But he has been good as a long reliever.

OK, I don't want to overwhelm you so I'll stop here for the day.
