[QUOTE]I wonder if he is comparing regular season to post season. I would argue that hitting can get you to the play-offs, but its pitching that wins it. Just look at the world series winners over the past ten years. 00 yankees pitching (Clemens, Petite, Wells, O Hernandez), 01 Diamond backs pitching (Shilling, Johnson), 02 Angels (Ramon Ortiz, Washburn, Sele, Lackey)pitching, 03 Marlins pitching (Beckett, Penny, Willis, Pavan) 04 Redsox pitching, (Shilling, Pedro, Lowe), 05 White sox pitching (Burlhe, Garland, Garcia, Contrares), 06 Cardinals hitting, 07 Redsox pitching (Beckett, Shilling, Matzusaka, Lester) 08 Phillies pitching and offense (Hamels, Myers, Moyer) 09 Yankees pitching (cc, burnett, petite)10 Giants pitching, 11 Cardinals pitching and offense. Seems to me that pitching is pretty big especially when it counts.

Spot on. It seems that when it counts most, good pitching usually trumps good hitting.
