When history is re-written in 50 years, he will still go down the greatest Sox manager...

Very interesting that Terry Francona is on WEEI and hour and half before new Manager Bobby Valentine's introductory Press Conference.  Of course, Terry is fullfilling his obligation to have Dinner at a Ct Casino with a Fan of the Ordway and Holley Show. Terry is what I call painfully honest, still has no animosity towards the Red Sox re: the leak that he was on medications for health problems and Terry feels that affected the Cardinals decision which resulted in Mike Matheny being hired as the Cardinals manager. Of course we know Matheny is a good baseball man, so Terry was not suggested that Terry would have otherwise become the Cardinals' manager.  Terry is a wonderful man and has so much character and integrity that he still is not bad mouthing anyone and maintains that it was time for him to leave the Red Sox and still accepts responsibility that he could not get to his failing players during their swoon in September. Terry says he is still considering working as a baseball analyst and has a very positive attitude.  My prediction is that he will again manage in the MLs and will be successful.  I look at that as a winning situation for Francona and a loss for the Red Sox.  IMHO Ownership has to know the team's decision was actually made when it did not exercise its Option at the beginning of the season to retain Terry Francona for 2 more seasons after 2011.

    G.  C'mon dog.  I know you don't like Francona.  But, this was an obligation long before set-up.  If anything, blame WEEI for their lack of class.  But, no need to pile on Francona.  We know how you feel about the guy.

space....this is directed at the bootlickers...ive had enough of their tito revisionism this past week..and reading that hatchet job on Valentine by Ryan was classless....there was a reason he was fired....time to turn the page...not relive it the very day we annouce our new manager...

And there's also a reason Bobby Valentine was fired four times, including twice in Japan.
I truly hope I'm wrong, and I'll be the first to cheerfully admit it if I am. But I fear this is a horrible move.

It was a good interview I thought..kind of put to rest the whole idea that the Ortiz press conference episode was staged..or a joke...sounds like Francona thought Ortiz was a nice guy..but a bit of a baby. I guess that was another thing oamflo was wrong about.

pile on the guy? Terry Francona lost the RS job because he lost control of the team he was supose to have control of! it's as simple as that!

He went soft on the players who were supose to be adults and they took advantage of him! So who's at fault here?

Francona is the answer, for all you dumb a..s who think he got a raw deal, Francona got just what he deserved to get,  Fired!

So now he's on the radio, crying about the raw deal he got, grow up francona, next time you will know better, hopefully.

Francona failed in his responsibility to lay down the law when needed. I had to let someone go last week, you see, we have this policy that says this, and you're doing that. So let's talk about your last day. Didn't want to do it, but...the rest of the staff took notice, addition by subtraction.

Francona lasted 8 seasons in Boston, which is a major accomplishment in itself.  Dick Williams was a great manager but he didn't make it through 3 seasons.

He didn't get the job in St Louis for the same reason he was never named Manager of The Year, He's a lousy tactitian and strategist when it comes to in-game decisions. Year after year, he had a loaded roster and he held them to only 2 WS appearances. The silver lining to the horrible September was him finally being fired.
    Nice guy, lousy manager.

By the "Horrible Manager" thought. Do you think they can hire two horrible managers in a row??

Re: Terry Francona is now on WEEI-the Sox greatest manager-they threw him under the bus

Terry Francona was a very good manager.  I'll miss him.  But he deserved to be fired after steering his ship into an iceberg, and someone had to take the fall because you can't fire the players.  Plus, as other suggest, sometimes the message gets old and a new face is needed.  Francona was likely burned out, and 8 years here is like decades in dog years.

Also agree about the bad timing of his interview, but I don't blame the guy for firing back because he was the subject of some pretty ugly rumors despite being a stand up guy here for years.  If the Sox wanted to fire him, so be it, just lay off the character assassination in the media.

Francona lasted 8 seasons because he walked into a WS championship waiting to happen. The, championship, desperate fans in Boston believed that the Sox won as a result of hiring Francona, and made him a hero. Right place at the right time. He was made a hero by the fans, when in fact he had little or nothing to do with them winning in 2004. Had he led them to an 0-4 sweep by the Yankees, which was a strong possibility if the players hadn't decided to ignore him for the last four games of that series, would he have lasted 8 years? In 7 years they got to ONE WS, and should have been in 2-3 more. They underachieved with him at the helm. His prowess as a manager is illustrated by his MOY awards and by the respect given to him by the Cardinals and the Cubs. Had he been hired in 2005 instead of 2004, he MIGHT have lasted 2 years.
