The Red Sox are not living up to their billing.

Good morning to my good friends on Red Sox:On the front burner.
The headline in the spring was eye-popping. Remember Eric Ortiz’s story this spring:

www.nesn.com/2011/01/2011-red-sox-will-challenge-1927-yankees-for-title-of-greatest-team-in-major-league-history.html">2011 Red Sox Will Challenge 1927 Yankees for Title of Greatest Team in Major League History

But here we are on Thursday morning, April 28th, and your Sox have lost 2 straight to the lowly Orioles. And my Yankees are in 1st place. Your lineup has glaring deficiencies. And to think one of the Sox writers wrote a story predicting that this 2011 lineup was as good as the 1927 Yankees Murder’s Row.

    Ellsbury avg.=.244

    Youkilis avg. =.214

    Crawford avg. =.156

    Varitek avg.= .091

    Saltalamacchia avg. =.186

    Gonzales HR=1

    And pitching:

    Bard ERA=3.97

    Buchholz ERA=5.33

    Lacket ERA= 6.35

Doesn’t this want to make you

I don't think it's their having glaring deficiencies, as much as people not performing up to their potential.

There is a long ways to go and still plenty of time for this team to start clicking. They've shown signs of coming out of their funk recently. I can't see players the caliber of Youk, A-Gon, and CC. not having a lot better numbers than they have now by the end of the season. Even Ellsbury is better than his numbers show. I have no comment about the catching situation.

Posada, Gardner, and Swisher aren't exactly tearing the cover off of the ball either.

FRANKIE, IS THIS THE BEST YOU CAN DO FOR A LIFE?

    REALLY???

I've heard that there is a team that has won 27 crowns with a rich history of not only outstanding players but who eras when no one could touch them.  Golden eras when everyone else from coast to coast called out "Damned Y______s"

And yet you aren't interested in a little pub talk with them?  A little shmoozing with such an elite group of guys - both players and fans - that they don't somehow call to you as the bosom of baseball pleasure???

I love talking about the Red Sox, Frankie.  Especially with Red Sox fans.

    But ...

you go out of your way to avoid your "brothers in arms" to come here.

    Frankie ... you're a sick puppy.

And I mean that in the very finest way.

    Frankie?

Which direction does the sun come up every morning?

To be realistic, it was known in spring training that the catching was "iffy" at best.
The bullpen hasn't been exactly stellar.
Until recently, the starting pitching was horrific.
It appears that A-Gon's shoulder is still tender.
Crawford doesn't seem to be a fit on this team.
Some questionable managerial moves by Francona.

It is true that RS are not living up to their billing.  What we also have to keep in mind is that in April, they'll have played 15 on the road and only 9 at home.  With 18 home games in May, it is not inconceivable they'll play up to their potential, particularly starting off with Seattle and Anaheim.

95 wins gets them into the playoffs.  The target now is to play 61% ball through the rest of the season - difficult but not impossible.

REGULARS HAVE THE GUTS TO REFUTE ANYTHING I SAY.\
DIAMONDTALK IS CORRECT. THIS TEAM IS WAY, WAY OVERRATED.
THEO MADE SOME GODAWFUL ACQUISITIONS. IN A PARK WITH
A 38O FT. RF, HE BOUGHT CRAWFORD , A GUY WITH A FUNKY
SWING AND LITTLE DEEP POWER. BASICALLY A PUNCH AND JUDY
HITTER. AGON'S SWING WILL NOT TRANSLATE TO SUCCESS IN
FENWAY'S RF. HE IS NO TED WILLIAMS. WE PLAY TEK, A CATCHER
BATTING LESS THAN.100 AFTER ACQUIRING SALTALAMACCHIA WHO
WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE "ANSWER" . OUR CF, CAN'T HIT FOR
POWER....AT LEAST NOT COMPARED TO GRANDERSON. YOU ARE
SUPPOSED TO TAILOR YOUR CLUB TO THE BALLPARK. THEO HAS
DONE THE OPPOSITE. YOU CANNOT WIN A DIVISION OR EVEN A
WC WITH THE SQUAD WE HAVE. KOUFAX PITCHING EVERY NITE
COULD NOT WIN WITH THIS STATION TO STATION HITTING
TEAM. SORRY FANS...CALL ME A TROLL, AS USUAL, BUT IT IS
NEARLY MAY AND WE HAVE LOST 13 OF 23 GAMES. THERE IS
NOTHING THAT INDICATES THIS PATTERN WILL CHANGE. THE
TEAM SIMPLY HAS NO POWER .

The problem, as I see it, is that Francona's knee-jerk reactions are not helping this team. He moves this line-up around whenever someone has a an 0 for 4 night.
He needs to make a line-up and stick with it for than one day. Let these guys get comfortable with where they are hitting and they will start to hit like they are capable of doing, and have fun at the same time.
This team is tighter than a nuns's nasty.
They need to be able to relax and Francona is not letting them do that.

The sox are, what the are, a very highly paid under five hundred team. The beauty is that in the metaphor. They are the rich are we are the poor fans who just got poorer.

Not up to your usual level of excellence, Frank.

Small sample size and all that. I am going to wait for end of May before pushing the panic button.

    Hey, how about those Mets?

Frankie has been caught each of the last few days using quotes from Baseball blogs and passing them off as his own words. Ridiculous.
