HIS SPEED WAS NEVER/HARDLY USED..... AS A  T B  PLAYER, THAT ENTIRE TEAM WAS "ON THE MOVE", WITH THE DEFENSE BACK ON THEIR TOES AND THE PITCHERS LOOKING OVER THEIR SHOULDERS !!   WHAT SAY YOU ?? ALL YOU SMART WAN-A-BE MANAGERS !!!

2011 was a cra ppy year period.  Painful because of what it should have been.  You can't pin it all on one player.

Players have off years.  Some players never adjust to the Boston pressure cooker.  He's worth another chance.

I believe Terry should have done what he did with Pedroia keep CC batting 3rd or 2nd all year. Pedroia spent most of his AB at 1st or 2nd.
I believe CC is most comfortable there and can do more damage there.

You have to get on base before you can steal.  I would say that was Crawford's biggest problem.  He had a bad yr and that's on him.  Anybody who says it's because of how he was utilized is just making excuses.

Carl Crawford has a career OPS under .800.  While Youk was playing and hitting, the Sox had five players with OPS's over .850 and among the top ten in the AL--Ellsbury, Pedroia, AGon, Youk, and Papi.   Where does a Crawford, whose OPS in fact was under .700 this season, fit into that lineup?  Certainly not in the 1 thru 5 slots.  Oh, FWIW, the Sox led MLB in scoring this season.

Bill-806 can rant all he wants to, but the problem this year wasn't making opposing defenses off balance, but making opposing offenses off balance.  Our pitching stunk it up, period.

He never felt comfortable in the batter's box or in left field and that didn't have a thing to do w/ where he hit in the order.

I wonder how comfortable he feels on the 1st and the 15th - what does he net each paycheck?  It's gotta be well over $300K........

I think there had to be something physical going on with Crawford.  Not only were his SB way down, but his CS ratio was well below his career average, as well as his defense.  He lost a couple of weeks due to hamstring issues - maybe they were more of an issue than we knew.

Too many slowpokes in the lineup to utilize the few guys in the lineup with good speed.

Gonzalez, Youkilis, Ortiz and Varitek run the bases like molasses on a cold day.

That is the funniest post I have ever seen.

You re right that Crawford is batting when he have bunch of 90 years old men on bases!!

Crawford should be the #1 hitter while Ellsbury can move to #3!

Posted by Bill-806[/QUOTE]First of all they weren't so easy to defend, they scored more often than any other team in the game.

But your headline is meisleading. The offensive philosphy had little do with Crawford's substandard defensive play, lack of power production , low OBP and inability to hit LH pitching.
