In Response to This Team STINKS!
[QUOTE] Sorry...but it looks like it's going to be a long season. Isn't this the same BS that we saw last year...with the team getting off to an horrendous start? The bullpen obviously is attrocious. The reason that Theo is no longer around is primarily because of two horrid free agent signings, John Lackey and Carl Crawford. Crawford especially will be a millstone around the Sox necks for years to come. Thank God for the B's and Patriots.

Let's see our closer gets injured in the last week of spring training and everyone's pretending like the plan all along was to have Aceves close. If it were not for the failings of Aceves & Melacon we likely would have taken 2 of 3. What we'll never know is "what if Bailey were not injured" perhaps the outcome of both games might have been different...FYI the Tigers are pretty good.
So today as the Sox ready themselves for the next opponent on the schedule. The obvious question that begs to be asked is, how long can they go with the current tandem of Melancon and Aceves? Who are now 0'fer in save situtations. Roles that niether of them were intended to fill. Given the date, my guess is that they'll continue to run them out there. While looking for a longer term solution (teams aren't exactly lining up to make trades in the 1st week of April)...
That said, I'm having trouble with your statement regarding Epstein becasue the fact of the matter is the reason he's no longer employed by the Red Sox has nothing to do with Lackey or Crawford. In fact if you take the time to research the reasons it's clear that he coveted Luccino position with the Sox and when Luccino agreed to another 4 year extension. Epstein then in the interest of career advancement, no longer saw himself as a career GM, looked to find a like position with another organization with a clear path to the CEO job. A position of authority with a clear path to ownership, which is ultimately what he wants.
As for one or both being a "millstone" you forgot to add Matsusaka to the list because he and Lackey represent some 26M in payroll that is currently on the DL and like it or not it is due to them being on the DL that is at the heart of why we entered the season in search of pitching. neither of whom oh by the way would fix the bullpen...
as for Crawford I will reserve judgement until he has a chance to get on the field...early returns haven't been great...but that doesn't mean that he can't or won't be the player we thought we signed.
