The last one on Morales should be grounds for an ump firing.

    Moon,
He did flinch his throwing hand and thus balked. Subtle as is might have been, clearly the home plate umpire was looking for it. Both of Morales balk's were due to his starting his motion and then stopping before coming set, before stepping off...My guess is that Maddon might have said something to him before the game.

Ok I  will take a little crit. for this--Buch needs to spend some time with the Paw Sox away from the parent club. He pitched well enough to come close to a win vs a touugh young pitching opponent that doesn't lose where he is on the mound.

Granted Salty is virtually no threat to steal. With Salty on second game tied 1-1--Hellickson went 3 and 2 and a couple of foul balls before he even looked back at second. He is focused on the plate--even if he steals third--he definitely won't steal home. Just the threat alone of him throwing to second kept him close. The pitchers confidence in his "stuff" outweighed the fear of a steal plus it may have had something to do with the batter--he may have felt confident he could get him out.

Buch and Bard and several other relievers use the throw to a base because they don't feel confident, aren't ready, it solves the letting the runner know , you know he's there. It solves little. Get the ball and throw your best pitch with confidence.

What Buch needs is CONFIDENCE--go to the PawSox--pitch two games without pressure and come back after you get a dose of confidence--you may lose the two games--we don't care , we want you back feeling like the guy who can win a game 2-1 against a tough team, a tough manager that keeps the pressure on and against a tough staff that will keep most games close.

Buch pitched a pretty good game but he has to find his real game!

Valentine needs to say something to the umps about Peralta's quick pitch.  Didn't look like he came set on either one to me.  No one was on base, so they weren't balks (illegal pitches that should have been called balls and in Pedroia's AB it would have awarded him first base as ball 4).  It might be one thing if he did that all the time but he doesn't.

Didn't see the first call. The second was obviously a balk. The third obviously was not.

Good to see all of the focus on holding runners on base in ST is working.

The first one by Buch was blatant. The last one by Morales was nit-picking. Even the Ray's announcers said it was ticky-tac.
He was obviously changing his grip on the ball.
