Re: Where Will These Current Red Sox FA end of 2013 Players end up?

    Drew--Yankees--no QO--I'd offer him a 2 year extension @ $14 + incentives to a Max of $20

    Ells----Seattle----make QO

    Nap---Yankees as DH, back-up 1 B and C-- make QO

    Salty---Yankees--Make QO

    *************

    In their places----------

Drew-------------someone like Xander, Furcal or Brock.

    Ells---------------JBJ, ShaVic or Hazelbaker

    Napoli------------Nava, Loney/ Overbay or WMB

    Salty------------AJ Pierzynski, Ruiz, Lavarnway

    Drew?

    Napoli?

    Salty?

Not where you want them to end up.

I project Salty to return to the Red Sox. (Good, though I don't want him back beyond 2 years and about 20 to 25M in the role of 1B/C/DH)

I project Drew to leave his latest jounreyman stop and end up with the Mets (Hooray!)

I project Ellsbury to end up with the highest bidder between the Mets or Giants, but project that will be the Mets  (Hooray!)

I project Napoli to return to the Red Sox  (I'd QO only and want the draft compensation instead of bringing Napoli back)

Salty should be # 1 project to resign......Ells . Drew, Naps should go !!

Now that would be a step down. Also the Yankees are trimming payroll they aren't going to raid the Sox.

The Yankees are going to try and rebuild in a hurry. Spending big is the only way they know. Don't believe for a minute that they are trimming payroll.

i think their plan is to get under the cap, reset the tax, THEN spend like crazy.

IF they were smart, they would shed payroll and punt on 2014, build up their farm and then spend.

Do you want place a wager that not only do the Yankees trim payroll this off season, but they do in fact get under the luxury tax limit?

I have to disagree with the previous three posters. The leopard does not change it's spots. The Yankees just completed a lucrative radio deal to go with their YES money. They are loaded with cash, but not with quality players. The farm is barren. Today , Cashman already started to back track on his plans. He said that getting under the cap was a "goal" , but not a " mandate." Look for them to be big spenders this winter ,  especially if they can get A- Rod off the books.

    Stabbed by Foulke.

There is some evidence that they are serious about trimming payroll.  Exhibit A is last offseason.  They let guys like Swisher, Martin, and Ibanez walk and added virtually nothing.  In fact they haven't really added much since the Sabathia/Teixeira/Burnett orgy.

Agreed, but they had to know they weren't looking very good coming into this season.

If they're going to spend big money this offseason it would have to start with signing Cano, and that will be a major chunk right there.
