I still think sox in 6 but I sure would have preferred 4 or 5

I think with Peavy and Buchholz pitching the next 2 games you could get good odds on SOX in 6. SOX in 7 would be more realistic.

You guys still want Gomes in LF? He's a good luck charm all right. Awful arm and 0 for 7.
Sure we want Gomes in left leading by 1 run.....its not for his defense/arm, it's for the intangibles that Gomes has that Farrell loves.  Who cares if Nava has been hitting 300+ and plays good to excellent defense with a stong accurate arm.

Why is Gomes still in defensively when the SOX have the lead?

My God, Bresloe made the mistake. Are you guys blind?

Cardinals knew to steal on Saltalamachia. He is not great defensively and it shows at times. The Cardinals did their homework on him.

I really wouldn't mind Ross catching the rest of the series.
Or at least bring Ross in to replace Salty when ahead by 1 run and in the 7th.

Wanna bet!  Gomes intangibles are better than Nava's BA and defense.  GO FARRELL/GOMES!

I think we should stick with bogearts in game 3 but Nava should be in there for sure.

    And Ross.
Ross does a much better job framing the plate and I think Peavey needs that help. Plus, he makes contact.

    1. Nava in lineup for Game 3.

    2. Farrell needs to really look at the numbers/splits to put the best hitting lineup he can muster for Game 3 because....

    3. Peavy has been in elevator down mode since late August.*

*well, the odds are he'll eventually pitch the acidental gem; let's hope it's Saturday."

Ross is generally useless at the plate, but lately, so is Salty. So I would play Ross and expect nothing from him with the bat. As far as Nava for Gomes, its Nava, as it should have been from the beginning. Just dumb managing prevented the logical lineup from occurring.

Re: World Series Game 2 Thread: Cardinals at Red Sox

Farrell should have moved to defensive strategy soon after Papi's go ahead HR - bring in fresh arms from pen to shut them down, put best defensive players in positions - Nava in LF for Gomes, Ross for Salty, and even WMB for XB to bring in whatever experience WMB has over XB.

Expeccting more than 6 innings from starters on a cold night in a WS is asking for trouble.

Well, no more talks of sweeps in this series.  Cards are good, every bit as scrappy as Sox.

best of 5, with Card having the home field.

    Go Sox !
