Let's have a 1 game moratorium on throws from Home to Third.    Bad Karma.

Can't find anything on Shane being out.    Unless that HBP last night hurt him in BP.

I do not have a problem with tonight's lineup, it's the execution and hittiing like they are capable of that will tell if they can bring it back to Boston for a game 6.   A loss tonight and it's over.

It matches the tightness that has been around his and some of his teamates' necks this post season.

Farrell says Victorino felt it last night. Not the result if the HBP. Similar to other episodes this season. They hope he can play Game 5

Not getting a good feeling about tonight at all.    Bucholtz may need to pitch a perfect game for the win.

But if that did happen, they would also take a 0-0 lead into extra innings and Kozma will then hit a little league inside the park error filled play and would be out by 20 feet but Salty drops the ball.   Cards win 1-0 and this would be the line for the game:

    Boston          0 runs     12 hits    3 errors    13 LOB

St. Louis       1 run        0 hits     4 errors     0 LOB

There's no way to know if the obsturction play didn't end the game, who would won. We didn't burn our bullpen and more likely than not, will need it with Buch pitching. Rosenthal isn't available tonight. Cards number 4 against our number one, for a good part of the season. The obstruction call may wake and fire up the team. Win tonight, back to square one and Fenway.
+ 1..at that point it was still even footing..

Yes, the sox still had a chance to win

JBay Rosenthall only threw 20 pitches last night, so he might be available. Tonight is a must must win game. If we lose tonight we will most likely never make it back to Boston. Some of the moves Farrell has made have been questionable at best. Letting Workmann hit against Rosenthall was awful although He probably did not want to pinch hit him and then replace Big Papi in the lineup at first base yet with him due up in the top of the 10 inning. Drew although good defensively is a disaster at the plate. Leaving Saltalamachia in to hit who has done nothing at the plate but strikeout consistently. He cannot throw anyone out and cost them game 2 between him and Breslow. Remind why he is playing, when Ross is better defensively and could not do any worse at the plate ?

At the trade deadline, I felt they needed another good reliever (not Thornton) and a third baseman at the trade deadline like Michael Young. Cherringon needed to nake a deal here and it isrearing its ugly head. I can respect that they did not want to give anyone good in their system up like Baeggerts and I agree with that. However, the other question is how often do you get to the World Series ? Middlebrooks is way to streaky with the bat and his glove is okay, not great. Peavy although he has a great heart is not a work horse who is going to get you into the 7th and 8th inning. Hehas become a strain on the bullpen alla Tim Wakefield in 2011.

AL, Matheny said in the post game Rosenthal isn't available tonight. Wasn't long ago everyone was calling for Salty to be extended. Drew, also.

Mike Napoli said he felt OK taking grounders at third base, but had no idea whether he would see action at third in a game.

Well here's your choices in the SOX line-up: NAPS and Bogie, Drew and Bogie, or Middlebrooks and Bogie. Pick your poison.

I'd go with NAPS and Bogie.
As much as I would love to get both Drew and Middlebrooks out of the lineup, putting Napoli in at 3B for the first time in his career in a game like this is insane. And its not going to happen. Meanwhile, Day to Day Clay is curled up, catatonic, in a fetal position somewhere now that he knows Farrell is going to MAKE him pitch when he is not 110%. Lets see what he is made of.

D-lowe could be a head case during the regular season  but he really stepped up in 04'.  Maybe he should call buch to pass on his secret to success

Drew is in the lineup cuz of defense!!  Drew would have made the second outs in the 9th inning if he stay in the game, but instead Bogaerts move to SS, and could not make a play where he started the winning run at the 1B.

If the game hadn't ended the way it had last night..this would be the play everyone was talking about. Bogaerts misplayed that ball for sure but the every day first baseman would have dug out that low throw. Not critizing either player...but this is why putting your strongest defensive team on the field also matters. It matters more in my opinion because our offense has been lacking in this series and the last.

I think Drew to Napoli makes that out and Carpenter never gets the chance to score.

I don't think Drew makes the play on that infield hit. It is too simplistic to say that he does. Please don't emphasize defense,  then defend trading Iglesias because he " can't hit. " Be consistent.

I was okay with the Iggy for Peavey trade...but Iggy's hitting ability was irrelevent. It was clear that Bogearts was going to be the SS of the future ( at least at the time it seemed clear) and at the time we had a greater need for pitching.
