Re: World Series Game 6 Thread: Cardinals at Red Sox

I am getting old, even for 73, because I simply look forward to another great game in what I think has been the most watchable postseason in Sox history. Dragons to slay by the dozens, to say nothing of going down, but not quite for the count, in several games.
I don't agree Wacha is all that hittable or that he will be intimidated by an elimination game. Our guys did in fact hit him in game 2, but only for 2 runs.
Vic can't hit spit--except for the occasional grandslam, of course--but it will be great to see him back out there. Gotta have Gomes for the sheer adventure of catching a fly ball and the occasional gamewinning dinger.
Farrell is very loyal to his players, but he also took two guys out of the lineup, Middlebrooks and Saltalamacchia. Clearly the right moves, which may reverberate in 2014. But Drew has persisted at SS despite the missed at bat which led immediately to a single that would have been an out if he was at SS. End of that experiment.
Buchholz starts game 4 looking like the wreck of the hesperus. Not just the beard and the hair, but the sedate fastball. Frightening. No way the Sox can win. But he went 4 inning and gave up 1 unearned run, after which Doubront went 2.2 and gave up another run, but got the win. All thanks to the totally unexpected dinger by Gomes. Amazing. And suddenly the Sox were even 2-2 in Detroit and not down 3-1.
I never watch soap operas, but know they are sometimes addictive. So is this postseason. Winning is everything--except when the postseason is this much fun.
Tonight I think both pitchers will again be effective but give up runs. Another gutwrenching finish. And maybe game 7 tomorrow. My point is, there are worse things than another great game.
