Would you do this trade for Felix Hernandez?

The mariners are aweful and are not going anywhere. The only guy they have that has any real value at this point is Felix Hernandez. He is one of if not the best pitcher in baseball. So it would take a lot to pry him away from the mariners. Would you do this trade of you were theo epstein:

    Mariners get:

    clay buchholz (replacement for hernandez)

lars anderson (nice future complement to justin smoak in the middle of the order)

    2 of reddick/navarro/linares/bowden/exposito/middlebrooks/

    Red Sox get:

    Felix Hernandez

Do you guys think this would be enough?

The Red Sox do not need to give up top players for Felix H.

The Red Sox are fine as of now.

Re: Would you do this trade for Felix Hernandez?

The Seattle Mariners, who reportedly turned down a better package* in 2009 for a year and two months of Felix Hernandez, would never accept that modest package now that the 25-year-old righthander remains under his team's control through the 2014 season.

A week rarely goes by on this forum without an unrealistic proposal of a Red Sox trade for Felix Hernandez, who is virtually untradeable because of the return the Mariners would demand.

Boston's pitching staff is fine.  We do not need to give up a lot for Felix H.

Remember when Minnesota wanted the whole world from Boston for Johan Santana?

Even if the Sox offered Iglesias, Kalish, Renaudo, Britton and Pimental, it would not be enough for Felix Hernandez.

Get over it, folks, he isn't not coming to Boston...

I don't care if it's enough or not, there's no way I'd make that trade, even if Seattle ok'd it.

The problem there is that they'd have to hope Montero ends up being a catcher... Unless Smoak ends up being a total bust, which I doubt.

If Clay wins 18 and Felix would win 20, does that make it worth giving up all the other stuff the Sox would have to part with?  The answer is no.

I would never trade Clay period.  Seattle will want more than Theo is willing to give up.  He has an ace in Lester, Clay, Beckett and Lackey are set for the next four years.  The RS would look for a replacement at the back end if Dice K falters.

They will stand pat for now seeing how the rotation has straightened itself out and the offense is playing better.  Its early folks.

He is a catcher. If Seattle wants to move him somewhere else in the infield that is up to them....the Kid rakes and is a a blue chip.  Him and Smoak are young and they may be looking to rebuild. Arod moved to third in the middle of his career and these guys are younger they can work that out.  If Montero stays he stays but if Seattle is looking to sell Montero will be on their list if they are interested in dealing with the Yanks.  Its not in my hands Cashman and Tampa know more than I do.

I seriously doubt that Seattle would accept that pakage for Felix. They can get more elsewhere. Besides, the Sox really don't need him anyway.

If the M's thought Montero could stay at catcher they wouldn't have taken Smoak over him last year for Lee. Period.

Because they would hate having the 2 of them and things never change from year to year.  These are all things that we speculate about and none of us know.

The only way the Mariners trade Felix is if they get back a young position star who is cheaper and under years of control, plus a proven young MLB very good starting pitcher. They don't get better otherwise, as Felix is under control and not crazy priced.

Cant believe some of these morons wouldnt do this trade. It's basically Buchholz for Hernandez straight up, those prospects are nothing. Hernandez is better than three Buchholz's

    1. You're an idiot of you wouldn't do this trade
    2. You'd be a bigger idiot to be the Mariners GM and accept this trade.
