From a personal stand point spaceman, I certainly don't want Youk facing us that many times next season any more than I did Damon.

Yeah, might be a little worse with Youk.  Damon was just a mercenary all along, so there was no meaning in anything when he faced the sox.  But, Youk, Youk was run outta town by Bobby V. and the organization signed off on it.  I mean, Middlebrooks is the future, and something had to be done.  But I am sure Kevin feels betrayed and he is gonna have a little something extra in his mojo when he faces the Sox.  I don't like the idea of Youk exacting revenge at all.

Middy was the answer but Youk back at 1B might have been worth the same risk for us.

Re: Youkilis signs with Yankees

I can just hear them singing now (Think of Bing Crosby and Bob Hope's "Road to Morocco"):

We're off on the road to Spring training
This taxi is tough on the spine (hit me with a band-aid, Dad)
Where they're goin', why we're goin', we don't know either
I'll lay you eight to five that we'll meet  Derek Jeter(yeah, get in line)

Off on the road to  Spring Training
Hang on till the end of the line (I like your jockeys. Quiet)
I hear this state's where they do the dance of the  pinstripes
We'd tell you more (uh-ah) but we would have the censor gripe (good boy)

We certainly do get around
Like Webster's Dictionary we're Spring training bound

We're off on the road to Spring training
Well look out, well clear the way, 'cause here we come
Stand by for a concussion
The men eat fire, sleep on nails and saw their wives in half
It seems to me there should be easier ways to get a laugh
(shall I slip on my big shoes?)

Off on the road to  Spring training
Hooray! Well blow a horn, everybody duck
Yeah. it's a green light, come on boys

We run into Villians but we haven't any fears
Cashman will protect us cause we're signed for another year(yeah)
Certainly do get around
Like Webster's Dictionary we're Spring training bound

We certainly do get around
Like a complete set of  Arod's baseball cards  that you get
in the corner drugstore for a dollar ninety-eight
We're Spring training bound

Or, like a  bottle of Derek Jeter's "Driven" that you buy in the
department store at Christmas time for cousin  Yuri Sucart
We're  Spring training bound
(we could be arrested)

I do not understand this.

He goes to NY knowing when ARod comes back he is on the bench or at best the DH and a part time 3B/1B

He is looking for playing time versus ARod. Teixera, and probably Andruw Jones ??.

Whereas if he went to Cleveland right now he'd be the starting first baseman and back with familar faces on that team and coaching.

can't believe we have

to wait till Fri, 7/19 for 1st gm at the fens

I don't like this one bit.  It will kill me to see Youk in a Yankees uniform.  :-(

That said, I don't have any hard feelings against him.

The good thing for him is, he won't be able to tell whether the Fenway faithful are booing him or shouting Yoouukkkk!

Best offer, Jim.  Youk claims he went for the intensityof the ALE. They never admit they followed the money trail.
My guess is that A-Rod does not return next year...they give him time to heal.  Youk will play third all year or DH since the Yanks rotate their DH.   He will still be offered a contract as a FA next year and can get 2 yrs then.  He wants a shot at a ring again.  Jones is no longer with the Yanks...Youk will be a much needed RH bat.  Wish him all the best (except against the Sox).

You have to hand to old Hollywood Bobby.  Youk was finished, but still managed 15 HRs in 1/2 season with the WS, and a $12M contract with the EE.  Left on June 24th when we were 38-34, and we went 31-59 the rest of the way.

JIM

I think and if so give him credit

if he's doing it for the action

it was said he missed the intensity while in chicago

for the same reasons

I could see swish taking less money to go to sox over clev

maybe we can trade them once arod gets back

watching swish in a sox uni will be just as bad 4 me

maybe worse
One good turn deserves another, zac. Not sure what will be worse for yankee fans; seeing Swish in red sox or Youk in pinstripes.;)
