It's pretty simpleone play was clean and agressive, clearly a routine part of them game.one was pure retaliation and a dirty playhow is this any different from the numerous times any pitcher throws at a batter?á usually its after a hard and aggressive play, and throwing at a batter is pure retaliation and dirty.

I will tell you why Eddie. It is pure and simple. Plain as the nose on your face. Because it involved a yankee and not a sox player. And you are right. It is no different.

I know this is mostly an opinion area because we are talking about "unwritten rules" where there is no clear cutáBlack or White answer, but (correct me if I'm wrong here) isn't throwing at a batter considered to be an acceptable form of retaliation? It is accepted to a point. But the pitcher can still be thrown from the game for it and in some cases suspended. So is that acceptable? The batter can still be hurt also. Maybe more so considering where he is hit by the ball. A ball coming at you at almost 100 miles an hour can do considerable damage. To a hand. An arm. A head. ááIs a spikes high slide now to be considered an acceptable manner to answer a team back too? I'm not looking to pick a fight here, but I see a difference and it's not just because I'm a Sox fan.I don't think there is a acceptable manner to retaliate. But it is done every day in baseball. You just have to be able to take what comes when you decide to do that. I don't think what Johnson did to Cervelli was acceptable considering they were already winning the game, it was the 9th inning and 2 outs. Although it is a not a dirty play when it was done was just wrong. And I still believe he should have slid in and none of this would have happened. But Maddon wants his players to be aggressive. So he was. But in that instance it wasn't needed. And a player wasáhurt. áSo Duncan decides to do what he did yesterday. I haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but I am sure he is ready to take any punishment for what he did. Players should watch out for each other. I have no problem with that. But I think this is being made bigger then it actually is. Retaliation is and always will be a part of baseball. The yankees didn't just invent it yesterday.

Two incidents came to my mind when i read this...

and they both happened in teh same game.

    Jeter and Soriano.

So true Vic. And yet you didn't hear sox fans complain when Pedro was beaning our players at will. That was acceptable I guess. I will always hate Pedro. Nothing more then a head hunting thug. But sox fans will always love him. And nothing was ever done in retaliation for what he did. And I think there should have been. Manny admiring his HR's is disrespecting the pitchers and the game IMO. But nothing is ever done. The sox haven't been perfect by any means but you take one instance of the yankee players doing something and all of a sudden it is news. LOL I will never figure these things out sometimes.

My question was in regards toáthe post that said a batter hit by a pitch is the same thing as a spikes high slide. So, I'll ask again. Is it really your opinion that they should be viewed as the same thing? No in my opinion they are not the same thing.

I'm not looking to pick a fight here, but I see a difference and it's not just because I'm a Sox fan.GA chris, personally i think there is a difference but not a big difference.á if i pitcher wants to retaliate, he should throw at the guys back or shoulder, or even ribs...someplace where it won't do a lot of damage.á i've seen pitchers headhunt, throw at a guys elbow or wrist and when that happens, the batter is usually out for a few games...which in my opinion is dirty.á throw at a guys back, make your point and move on.á as far as duncan's slide, i have no problem with a hard slide, yes his spike was a little high but if you saw the play, its not like he was barrelling into second base either.á he slid and the SS didn't even move after duncan hit him because he was coming in so slow.á if duncan wanted to hurt him, he easily could have.á i am not condoning the play but it is really getting blown out of proportion.i also read somewhere on why gomes went after duncan and he said something along the lines of "when someone does something to my teammate, i will stick up for him".....exactly what duncan was doing standing up for cervilli.á again, i am not condoning the play, its just blown way out of proportion because a lot of the papers are only showing the second picture Vic posted earlier on this thread where duncan's leg is up really high as he was turning over to see the ump.á the original slide picture seems to not get shown....wonder why...

I miss CP.........anyway........I just watched the video that TWM left the link to. I have to say that foot was high and it looks like it was done on purpose. I have no problem with him getting suspended for a few games or whatever. But after watching the video of Johnson coming in and creaming Cervelli again and how hard and vicious he was.........I have no problem with Duncan doing what he did. So that is that. I wonder how our new player Crystal will do today? LOL

TWM, why waste your time with this. The only consistency they've shown in the time here is that they consistantly spin every everything to make anything the Sox do as some sort of commandment from God, and everything every one else does is wrong, unfair or part of the general bias against the Sox.á Even when shown their own words they try to disguise it. I swear they all must have Bill Clinton defining their words. Of course, how can you blame them, many of them live in a place that consistantly votes for a drunk who should be in prison for manslaughter andáobstruction of justice at the very least.
