    Quincy council criticizes Fore River Bridge design

    Quincy officials are up in arms after a recent public meeting on the proposed Fore River Bridge showed preliminary bridge designs that they considered less than satisfactory.

    What do you think about the designs? What do you think of the renderings? Think there's a good design, or do you think there should be a different one?

    What's most important to you in the bridge design?

    I think the vertical lift design is rather nice, and makes the bridge a little unique. It sounds like the council just wants the same old same old. They need to move out of the 19th century.

     It is a bridge, does it do as is required of a bridge. Is it safe and does the design make for easy upkeep. If the bridge serves these area's then the city council is just trying to flex some muscle and may be mad oh to bad.

    The 'gateway' argument seems a little weak.  Chemical plant, power plant, tank farm.  Lovely.  Oh, and strip malls all over 3A, really lovely.  Lots of very scenic stuff to look at while you're waiting for the bridge to go up and down.  The best bridge would be one that keeps the traffic moving at all times.

    As we watch the temporary bridge get patchier and patchier, the absolute top priotity is to build a safe bridge that will allow passage of modern ships necessary to re-create business uses and jobs in the old shipyard and surrounding area. Looking back at what was the norm in 1935 or so is not appropriate.
