If you or your child have a fascination with ocean-going vessels, then Salem is the place for you this weekend. Starting on Saturday, the 30th Annual Antique and Classic Boat Festival unfurls its sails at the Brewer Hawthorne Cove Marina. Throughout the festival you'll have a chance to see a diverse display of beautiful antique and classic sailboats, powerboats and hand-powered craft ranging from elegant 1920's - 1930's era runabouts and cabin cruisers to classic sailboats and schooners. Some skippers will don period garb, while others will decorate their vessels period décor, table settings and captivating floral arrangements -- and perhaps a parrot or two! There will be a blessing of the fleet, a parade of boats, artists and a craft fair, a New Orleans jazz band, and plenty of activities for kids. The festival's goal is to educate the public about our nation's maritime heritage, and to pass an appreciation of boating and maritime heritage on to a new generation. It's a weekend of waterfront fun for the whole family! Sat. Aug. 25, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Sun. Aug. 26, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. All ages. $5 donation; under 12 free.
