Cell phones in the classroom for learning: Do you think it's a good idea?

A hot topic at the NBC Education Nation summit in New York City this month is cell phones in the classroom.

Boston.com Moms talked to several local students last month about cell phones at school and many admitted to texting and using phones during school hours when it's forbidden.

Many local schools have specific rules that phones must be turned off during school hours. For example, in Danvers students must have cellphones turned off between 7:25 a.m. and 1:55 p.m. Students may only use their phones before school, after school, and during lunch, according to the school's student handbook.

But what about the concept of students being asked to take their phones out in the classroom to learn? It's already happening in Kentucky, according to the above report by WNDU.

One teacher in the video says by telling students, "You can get your phone out for this," it's going to thrill them and engage them more.

Do you think it's a good idea for students to use their cell phones in the classroom?
