Franklin Park Zoo's 100th Birthday Celebration, Dorchester, Oct. 6

Help celebrate the 100th birthday of the Franklin Park Zoo at a big bash for visitors and animals alike. Throughout the day, you'll be able to sign a huge birthday card, take a self-guided walking tour of the zoo's history, and more. Local bakeries will be contributing birthday cakes not only for sampling, but also to be judged on creativity and taste. You can also watch as the animals receive birthday-themed enrichment items filled with treats just for them. Other activities include the burial of a time capsule and a performance by the children's group Rolie Polie Guacamole. Get ready to blow out a whole lot of candles! Sat., Oct. 6, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. All ages. Adults, $17; ages 2-12, $14; seniors, $11; under age 2 are free. Franklin Park Zoo, One Franklin Park Road, Dorchester. www.zoonewengland.org
