Presentation by Barbara Meltz, Needham, March 6
Join award-winning Boston Globe columnist and Child Caring blogger Barbara Meltz for her presentation at Olin College, "Raising Children in a Changing, Complicated and Sometimes Scary World." Sometimes it’s hard to know what to say to our children about the violence and dangers of our imperfect world. How can we be honest with our kids without raising them to be fearful? Sponsored by Parent Talk, in their series of parenting lectures, Meltz's presentation, drawn from her book "Put Yourself in Their Shoes: Understanding How Your Children See the World," offers practical advice on how to approach difficult subjects in a way that is developmentally appropriate and reassuring. Meltz is going to help attendees identify life events that children might need help with, for example a death in the family, the birth of a sibling, telling a secret, stealing, media violence or having access to the news. She will provide strategies on how to cope with those events and what to do and say to our children. Wed., March 6, 7 p.m. Adults only. $10 pre-registered, $15 at door; free for Parent Talk members. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged, as events sell out quickly and space is limited. Online registration ends the day before lecture. Olin College, 1000 Olin Way, Needham. www.parenttalk-raising-children.eventbrite.com
