In Massachusetts, one in every 12 households experience periods of hunger. Over two hundred thousand children are living in poverty. With so much need, food pantries can often face shortages on their supplies of even the most basic items. Join "Feed the Need" for a 5K walk/run at Wompatuck State Park in Hingham this month for a fundraiser that benefits South Shore food pantries. In addition to the 5K, there will be tot fun runs for the kids. The first 100 registrants will receive t-shirts, and the top three finishers in each age group will be awarded medals. The entry fee is 25 cans/boxes of food or $20 (family maximum of $60). Help this all-volunteer group feed the need in local communities. Sat., March 30. Kids 1-mile race starts at 8 a.m.; 5K starts at 8:30. Wompatuck State Park, Union St., Hingham. www.feedtheneed.org
