Comment on: Conscious Uncoupling - Relationships - Boston.com
Posted 03/26/2014 03:24:11 EDT
Hey, they lasted ten years. Probably longer than most Hollywood actress/rock star marriages do/would. But yes, the whole "conscious decoupling" thing sounds contrived. And as for Coldplay being "bl more »
Comment on: Tournament is no help in trying to identify Danny Ainge's primary draft target for Celtics - Touching All the Bases - Boston.com

"[H]im and his team"? "[B]lood-blooded"? Editors are taking the day off?
Comment on: Grady Sizemoreâs play should push him into center field job for Red Sox - Adam Kaufman - Boston.com Sports
Posted 03/18/2014 01:42:08 EDT
Not Nava. Too productive (.300) and too consistent last year. I know he's a fan favorite, and deservedly so, but I'd move Gomes.

At which point, then, write write the piece?

In what capacity would you bring him back? Middlebrooks insurance? So...utility infielder? I could live with that for the right money (though I am definitely NOT a big fan).
Comment on: Report: Vince Wilfork asks for release from Patriots - Extra Points - Boston.com
Posted 03/13/2014 03:06:49 EDT
Is he just trying to avoid the indignity of being cut? Is there a team out there that will pay him more than what he could make this year with the Pats, even in a restructured deal? Will anyone go m more »
Comment on: Another milestone for Red Soxâ Grady Sizemore â back-to-back games - Sports - The Boston Globe
Posted 03/12/2014 03:12:34 EDT
So who in their right mind would expect Sizemore or JBJ to "replace" Ellsbury. When healthy, Ellsbury is an elite player. That you would even feel the need to write this story just shows that spring more »
Comment on: Revis Talib Patriots - Touching All the Bases - Boston.com
Posted 03/12/2014 10:48:56 EDT
And now that they've actually lost Talib, to Denver, no less, how do we feel? They weren't bargain hunting the last time they really went for it, in 2007. They're going to have to pay the market rat more »
Comment on: Patriots should abandon Revis Island ⦠This is Talibâs territory - Adam Kaufman - Boston.com Sports
Posted 03/07/2014 09:53:04 EST
I agree with the basic premise of keeping Talib over Revis or any cornerback actually on the market. I just don't trust the Patriots not to cheap out on Talib and try to replace him with a lesser tal more »
Comment on: Jarrod Saltalamacchia disappointed in Red Sox' low offer in offseason - Extra Bases - Red Sox blog
Posted 03/05/2014 02:48:37 EST
No big mystery here - they didn't want him back. Perhaps they shouldn't have even made a lowball offer. I can't see any circumstances under which they would have wanted him for three more years...at more »
Comment on: Projecting the Red Sox roster, Version 1.0 - Extra Bases - Red Sox blog

Why is Daniel Nava not projected as a starter and why in the world would you trade him???
Comment on: Is Jared Sullinger untouchable? -Celtics blog - Boston Globe basketball news

Keep them all, at least until we see what kind of draft picks we get.
Comment on: Ortiz contract request fair, not foul - Sports - The Boston Globe
Posted 02/06/2014 11:38:00 EST
I agree with Gaspar to the extent that it makes sense for Ortiz to push for an extra year based on what he did in 2013. I do wish, though, that he had made the request to management, in private, and more »
Comment on: Patriots owner Robert Kraft focusing on the wrong part of his teamâs roster - Sports - The Boston Globe
Posted 02/04/2014 03:20:52 EST
I took it as sign that we can expect another off-season of cheap-outs and reclamation projects, probably with some questionable draft picks mixed in. They are as far away from a championship-caliber more »
Comment on: A five-item Patriots offseason wish list - Touching All the Bases - Boston.com
Posted 01/29/2014 05:50:41 EST
If only it were that simple. They have a great-but-aging QB with a second-tier team. Offensive line. Defensive line. Pass rush. Defensive secondary, Deep threat. Tight end. They have more hole more »
Comment on: Contract extension for David Ortiz makes no sense for Sox - Sports - The Boston Globe
Posted 01/29/2014 02:37:03 EST
Not selfish, but definitely self-interested. I don't mind him asking for an extension. Coming off the glow of last year, his bargaining position might be as strong now as it will ever be again. But more »
Comment on: N.H. legislator threatens constituent who wants pot legalized - News Local Massachusetts - Boston.com
Posted 01/27/2014 04:09:12 EST
Well, we already knew that he is a liar. Now he's shown himself to be a thug, as well. Lying thug. Should work well on the old legislative resume.
Comment on: Red Sox offseason has been quiet . . . too quiet? - Sports - The Boston Globe
Posted 01/24/2014 01:32:38 EST
It's fair to raise the question, but how about offering some answers? What have the Sox not done that they should have done? What should they do going forward? As for players who have left the Sox, more »
Comment on: Patriots have challenges on both sides of the ball entering 2015 - Adam Kaufman - Boston.com Sports
Posted 01/22/2014 10:52:24 EST
This is not just a reaction to the loss in Denver. The Patriots are in decline. What they did this season with a roster held together with duct tape and paper clips, with one improbable win after an more »
Comment on: NBC's 'Saturday Night Live' hires a black woman - Television - Boston.com

When you have to put male cast members in drag whenever the skit calls for a black woman, you have a hole in your cast. About time they fixed it.

People have been saying that SNL isn't funny for 38 of its 39 years (I can't recall hearing that complaint in the first year, although the writing was actually hit-or-miss). Amazing longevity for a s more »
Comment on: Patriots will beat Colts, and it shouldnât be close - Adam Kaufman - Boston.com Sports
Posted 01/07/2014 01:08:02 EST
While I think it's a mistake to discount the Colts' chances, Kaufman at least includes some sort of intelligent rationale for his prediction. Contrast this with Shaughnessy's column today.
Posted 01/07/2014 01:06:19 EST
Where does he say that the game was played in KC?
Comment on: Dan Shaughnessy: Patriots must like their path - Sports - The Boston Globe
Posted 01/07/2014 12:54:34 EST
He's not a homer so much as an exhibitionist. This type of Shaughnessy column is the journalistic equivalent of someone in a crowded room screaming "LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!" Dan wants more »
