Is Adele’s Skyfall the best James Bond theme song?
Well now that one election is over, how about another? How about casting a Bond ballot?
With today’s release of Sam Mendes’s “Skyfall” (and the 50th anniversary of the film dynasty which began, yes, with “Dr. No”) comes the film’s theme song, this time sung by the fabulous Adele.
Over the years the Bonds, James Bonds, have had their women, toys, suits, danger, and soundtracks. The music is covered in Jon Burlingame’s new book, “The Music of James Bond.”
Here a few memorable contenders:
“We Have All the Time in the World” (Louis Armstrong)
“Die Another Day” (Madonna)
“Goldfinger” (Shirley Bassey)
“Thunderball” (Tom Jones)
“The Look of Love” (Dusty Springfield)
“Live and Let Die” (Paul McCartney)
