“Car Talk” isn’t quite dead yet. Unlike the AMC Pacer, the popular NPR show is getting a second life, starting this week.

On Friday, SiriusXM Satellite Radio will begin broadcasting three back-to-back episodes of Ray and Tom Magliozzi’s show on weekdays from 3-6 p.m. when many folks sitting in traffic could use a few laughs and perhaps some auto advice. And to put your engine in the mood, on Thursday, maybe the busiest travel day of the year, while you’re stuffing the turkey or stuffing your face, or sitting in apocaplyptic traffic, the promo begins with a “Car Talk” marathon from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on SiriusXM.

Since 1977, the Magliozzi brothers have made engines, brakes, carburetors, and tires sound interesting even to folks who don’t know (or give a flat tire) about the difference between a piston and a valve. Produced at WBUR-FM in Boston, “Car Talk” recently celebrated its 25th anniversary as a national broadcast.

In June, the siblings known as Click and Clack: The Tappet Brothers announced they would stop taping new shows as of last month. This put the brakes on new segments, but old NPR shows air on Saturday, and the Magliozzis continue to pen their weekly “Dear Tom and Ray’’ column.
