First Night Boston lineup announced

The lineup for this year’s First Night Boston celebration is out and there are some new things and plenty of good returns. The indoor/outdoor festival will feature 1,000 artists and 200 exhibitions and performances and run from 12 to 12 (that’s noon to midnight) in downtown Boston. Outdoor events are free with a First Night Button ($18, $15 online through Dec. 23, free under 4). You can buy the button online here.

Here are a few happy-new-year highlights:

- Brookline Ice sculptures at Copley Square featuring “Jack and the Beanstalk”

- Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum free admission to the first 300 button holders (11 a.m. – 2 p.m.)

- New England Conservatory Children’s Chorus at the Hynes Convention Center Ballroom (3 p.m.)

- The Grand Procession begins in front of the Hynes Convention Center (5:30 p.m.)

- “Pippin” at the A.R.T. (7:30 p.m. free admission to the first 50 button holders on a first-come-first-served basis beginning at noon)

- Magnetic Fields at Symphony Hall (9 p.m.)

- Sean Fielder and the Boston Tap Company at the Hynes Convention Center Ballroom (9:30 p.m.)

- Indie-rock singer Cass McCombs at the BPL (10:30 p.m.)

- LogMeIn Midnight Fireworks Over Boston Harbor

As for the artist behind the First Night button, her name is Maria Termini and she’s from Newton.
