25 Movies Added to National Film Registry for their “enduring importance,” including “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and “A League of Their Own”

Cue the music because “Breakfast at Tiffany’s (“Moon river, wider than a mile...”), “A League of Their Own” (“Say, it’s only a paper moon...”), “A Christmas Story” (sorry, there’s no song about shooting your eye out), and 22 other movies have been added to the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress.

So, what’s the big deal? According to the Librarian of Congress, James H. Billington, “Established by Congress in 1989, the National Film Registry spotlights the importance of preserving America’s unparalleled film heritage. These films are not selected as the ‘best’ American films of all time, but rather as works of enduring importance to American culture. They reflect who we are as a people and as a nation.”

’Tis the season, so start with “A Christmas Story,” and after you open your oh-so-Audrey Hepburn Christmas gifts (or baseball uniform), let the film fest continue.
