Robert Shure was selected unanimously by the Design Subcommittee to create the memorial sculpture,
competing within an international cast of other noted sculptors
from as far afield as Australia and Ireland.
Several local artists also competed.
The memorial will feature two life-size sculptures,
one depicting a family leaving Ireland's shores, impoverished and
desperate, and another depicting a family arriving in Boston,
filled with hope and determination.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1948, Shure graduated with a BFA in sculpture, cum laude, gold medal in sculpture, from the New York Institute of Technology, and received his MFA in sculpture, cum laude, from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University. He is president of Skylight Studios in Woburn, Mass., where he lives with his wife Kathy. |
