Your thoughts on Cardinal Law and the abuse scandal
Some have suggested that Cardinal Bernard Law should resign for his failure to remove former priest John Geoghan from contact with children years ago, when Law first learned of allegations that Geoghan was abusing boys. The cardinal has apologized for his inaction, but said he will not resign. We asked Boston.com users if they are satisfied with what Cardinal Law has said and done in the matter thus far, and if he should resign.

I am a practicing Catholic who was very involved in my church but am taking a leave from the church because of all this. The priests are not representations of Christ on earth. They all should be ashamed. They are not role models for anybody. I wonder would they have stayed silent if it were their nephews?
I think it is abonimable that anyone would have knowingly let someone abuse children without reporting this to Massachusetts State Authorities. This has absolutely nothing to do with the church or any other entity. This is a crime for which those who know of it are complicitly involved by their inaction.
I myself was repeatedly molested by a Catholic priest as an alterboy. That was in the 1960's and I never said anything to anyone because at that time to "slander" the priest would have gotten me a beating by my parents. The priest was GOD himself to my Irish Catholic folks! I suspect that there are many other adults that had similiar horrible and damaging experiences.
I think that the Cardinal has lost sight of his primary mission which is to minister to his flock. My sense is that the flock, of which I am a member, has lost confidence in him in his role as the guardian shepherd, and for the good of all he should step aside.
Cardinal Law resign because he did nothing to protect the most vulnerable members of the Church. His knowledge and inaction has angered me.
The apology from Cardinal Law is hollow. Cardinal Law should be held 100% accountable for letting this priest molest so many children and should be defrocked himself and should be sent to prison. He, in my opinion, is not a man of God.
He needs to restore confidence in the local church hierarchy to the Catholic community and the only way to do this is to take responsibility and resign. We cannot expect the church to reform itself with the same people in charge.
This entire scandal has me ashamed to be Catholic. Cardinal Law should be brought up on criminal charges for aiding these horrible acts.
I grew up in a Catholic home and have a strong religious family. Unfortunately my belief in the church, not the religion, has changed forever. I will cut my contributions to the church significantly until the Cardinal does the proper thing and resigns. I pray for those families that have been victims of the church over the years and hope this never happens again.
I, as a Catholic, ask for Cardinal Law and all the bishops involved to step down immediately and those who have proper values and character to step into these positions to lead the church into the future.
Too little too late.
