BostonWorks Offers Job Seekers A Super September

Big Help, Job City Job Fair, and the First-ever "Big Gig" Promotion Designed to Help Job Seekers Find Their Perfect Career Opportunity

BOSTON, MA - Thursday, September 9, 2004 - BostonWorks is offering local job seekers a Super September. With the annual Big Help special section, the 2nd annual job fair at Fenway Park and a first-ever BostonWorks promotion to help entry-level job seekers gain the experience to get their dream job, BostonWorks is the ultimate destination for Greater Boston's job seekers.

Tim Murphy, general manager of BostonWorks, said, "Traditionally, September is the second best hiring month of the year. Nationally, 144,000 jobs were created in August and Boston is outpacing the national average with job creation. As fall approaches, we anticipate strong hiring demand due to the improvement in the local economy, and BostonWorks will be the ultimate source for job seekers looking for that next great opportunity. Super September promises to help job seekers seize these opportunities."

With over 22,000 open positions currently listed on BostonWorks.com, BostonWorks has created three unique opportunities to help job seekers in September. They include:

  • The Big Help
On Sunday, September 12, BostonWorks will once again feature The Big Help, a bi-annual help-wanted section in the Boston Sunday Globe. Offered in September and January, The Big Help is the largest help-wanted section of the year. In September, more than 2000 companies will be advertising in the Big Help, representing more than 5,000 jobs including jobs in sales, medical professional, marketing, finance and many other positions. Jobs are entry level, mid-level and management positions at Boston's leading companies, including Banknorth, Antigenics, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, CVS, The Container Store, Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Akamai and American Express Financial Advisors, among others.

  • 2nd Annual Job Fair at Fenway Park
For the second year in a row, BostonWorks will host a job fair, Job City, at the legendary Fenway Park. On Monday, September 27, approximately 50 of Greater Boston's leading employers will be at Fenway Park looking to fill hundreds of jobs in the service and trade industries. The doors to Job City will be open from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., allowing job seekers to meet with employers such as CVS, Boch Enterprises, Cambridge Savings Bank and Venturi Partners, among others.

  • The Big Gig
Looking for the experience you need to get that dream job? For the first time, BostonWorks will launch a promotion designed to help entry-level or mid-career transition job seekers gain the experience they need to land their dream job. On September 19, BostonWorks will launch "The Big Gig." Working with five of Boston's leading companies, including KISS 108; Hill, Holliday; WB56; Dancing Deer Baking Company; and Staples, BostonWorks will offer the opportunity to enter to win an internship at one of these companies. To enter, the job seeker will need to go online to BostonWorks.com, submit his or her resume and an essay describing why he or she would be the perfect candidate for an internship opportunity. Up to five finalists will be identified for each opportunity and visitors to BostonWorks.com will be invited to vote for the candidate they believe to be most qualified. The internships will begin in January 2005.
