BOSTON, MA -- March 29, 2005 -- On April 3, The Boston Globe will publish Diversity Boston, a special advertising supplement focused on issues of importance to the region's multicultural community. Diversity Boston will feature advertising and editorial content designed to appeal to a multicultural audience and diverse job seekers. Stories in the issue will focus on the multicultural community of Boston and businesses that understand the issues and opportunities of diversity in the workplace. The supplement will be included in the April 3 distribution of the Sunday Boston Globe.
Reaching 563,000 racially diverse adults with a college or post-graduate degree, Diversity Boston will tap into Boston's highly educated and talented pool of professionals. Today, African Americans represent 28% of the city of Boston's population and Latinos represent another 14% of the population. With changing demographics, local businesses are exploring new ways to reach the city's multicultural professionals.
"Diversity Boston is a unique publication designed specifically to reach multicultural readers in Greater Boston," said Peter Newton, vice president of the Boston Globe. "Like many other major cities in the United States, Boston has become a city of diverse cultures. We are committed to reaching this audience for our advertisers and in doing so, helping Boston-area employers create a stronger multicultural workforce."
Agreement with the Bay State Banner
Diversity Boston offers a strong focus on diverse hiring and employment opportunities throughout the supplement. In an effort to increase distribution of the supplement to a diverse audience, BostonWorks, the recruitment services division of the Boston Globe, has signed an agreement with the Bay State Banner, a weekly newspaper serving Boston's African-American and English-speaking Latino communities. The award-winning publication is the principal advocate for these communities in Greater Boston and throughout the state.
The Bay State Banner will distribute Diversity Boston in its issue of April 7, giving BostonWorks an added distribution of 30,000 copies. Melvin Miller, publisher of the Banner, will write an editorial in support of the arrangement in that issue of the Bay State Banner.
"Partnering with BostonWorks on Diversity Boston just made sense," said Mr. Miller. "Diversity Boston offers both content and employment opportunities of interest to our readership. Combined with our reach, it was a winning solution for both parties."
Diversity Boston will be available in the April 3 edition of the Boston Sunday Globe. It can be found on newsstands around New England. Copies can also be obtained by calling 617-929-2226. Home delivery of the Globe can be started by calling 888-MY-GLOBE or via email at circulationservices@globe.com.
