BostonWorks Kicks Off Big Help Week, The Premier Career Resource for Boston's Job Seekers

BOSTON, MA - January 9, 2005 - BostonWorks kicked off Big Help Week today, with a week of online events, job listings and resources all designed to offer the local job seeker the best information for finding a job in Greater Boston.
The 2006 January Big Help appeared in the January 8 issue of the Boston Sunday Globe and online at www.bostonworks.com. This edition of the Big Help featured more than 25,000 jobs across a wide variety of industries, including healthcare, hospitality, finance, technology, bio-technology and many more. In anticipation of the Big Help, more than 4,000 new job seekers posted resumes on the site in the past seven days.

"The Big Help is one of our strongest Help Wanted sections of the year and with a full slate of activities on BostonWorks.com, we are able to extend the reach well beyond Sunday, January 8," said Jason Kissell, managing director of BostonWorks. "We look forward to offering a wide range of tools and information designed to help the job seeker land their dream job in 2006."

In addition to the 25,000 jobs currently listed on BostonWorks.com, Big Help Week features a variety of online resources and events designed to provide the job seeker with all the tools and information needed to land their next job.

Featuring Paul Harrington and Andy Sum of Northeastern University's Center for Labor Market Studies, this chat will offer insight into the 2006 job market in Greater Boston.

Tuesday, Jan. 10, 12:00 Noon: Getting the Salary You Want
Nationally known salary expert and author Lynda Ford will offer insight and advice on salary negotiations

Wednesday, Jan. 11, 12:00 Noon Getting Unstuck
Elaine Varelas, managing partner at Keystone Associates will offer advice on how to move your career forward in 2006

Thursday, Jan. 13, 12:00 Noon Making the Leap from Campus to Career
Frank Faggiano, a consultant to recent college graduates, will offer advice on getting your first job and starting your career off on the right foot.

Friday, Jan. 14 12:00 Noon Be Your Own Boss
Matt Kenney, founder and director of the Entrepreneurship Academy will answer your questions about starting your own company

The Big Gig
In conjunction with Big Help Week, BostonWorks is launching its second Big Gig Promotion. Designed to offer entry-level and mid-career professionals an opportunity to break into a new field, The Big Gig features four internship opportunities with prominent companies in the Boston area, including Solidworks Corporation, Fox Sports Net New England, The Bulfinch Group and Sonesta Hotels and Resorts. Job Seekers across the area are invited to submit resumes and a 200-word essay on why they are the best candidate for the internship. Five finalists will be selected for each opportunity and visitors to BostonWorks.com will be invited to vote for the most deserving candidate.
