Boston one of the most racially diverse cities in the nation

According to the US Census Bureau, racial and ethnic diversity is on the rise in Boston, thanks to its continued status as an immigrant gateway. More than half of Boston's residents identify themselves as part of a diverse demographic and 1 in 4 Boston residents are foreign-born.

Boston is now one of the most diverse cities in the nation with more than 200 languages spoken by residents. As the scope of the city's culture continues to broaden, businesses, colleges, non-profit organizations, government agencies and other institutions are finding a greater need to ensure that their organizations reflect the diversity of the city.

The latest version of a local multicultural resource guide will capitalize on this growing trend. Colette Phillips Communications Inc., Boston's premier diversity marketing communications firm, has partnered with BostonWorks, the recruitment services division of The Boston Globe, to launch Kaleidoscope 2nd Edition, Greater Boston's complete resource for multicultural information. The Guide has received ringing endorsements from a broad range of individuals including Boston's Mayor Thomas M. Menino, president of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, Paul Guzzi, president and CEO of the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau, Pat Moscaritolo, executive director of the Hispanic-American Chamber of Commerce, Nader Acevado and chair of the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority, Gloria Larson.

"The Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce applauds the arrival of Kaleidoscope. It's a timely reminder of the enormous business, professional and marketplace potential that Boston's ethnic communities offer, it's a great tool for companies to use to both recruit as well as market to Boston's growing diverse population", said Chamber CEO Paul Guzzi.

Kaleidoscope, first edition was created by Colette Phillips Communications, Inc. in 2000, and served as an invaluable resource for employers, the hospitality industry, educational institutions, hospitals and businesses, as well as immigrants, newcomers, long time residents, business and leisure travelers, employees, students, and recruiters to quickly locate services tailored to the unique needs of the diverse communities in Boston and beyond. It was an easy reference of resources that these individuals and organizations needed to know to become more assimilated and acculturated to the Greater Boston communities. Kaleidoscope 2nd Edition builds on the credibility and brand of the first edition, providing updated and expanded resources for diverse professionals in the area.

"Colette Phillips Communications is proud to have produced the original and now the second edition of Kaleidoscope. Whether one is a visitor, new comer, student, or life long resident Kaleidoscope is the only resource one will need to access, experience and enjoy the city's rich cultural diversity," said Colette Phillips president and CEO.

According to 2000 census data, more than 25% of Boston's population is foreign-born. These new Bostonians are working in all sectors of the city's labor market - both highly skilled and low-skilled jobs. According to Mass INC., immigrants have accounted for 82% of the labor growth in the state since the mid-1980's. As the baby boom generation retires and the labor supply shrinks, companies will need to become more comfortable with racially diverse workers.

"Over the past few years, Boston-area companies have shown a true commitment to diverse hiring," said Jason Kissell, managing director of BostonWorks. "Having Kaleidoscope 2nd Edition as a resource for these diverse hires will go a long way in helping companies both attract and retain this diverse talent."
