There is a list of rote, yawn-inducing adjectives that are dusted off and trotted out during award season every year: Glamorous, pretty, classic, and lovely all top the list. And those words could certainly be attached to a number of the perfectly serviceable gowns at last night’s Golden Globe Awards. But what a relief to see a woman take a seismic risk in an avant-garde design on the red carpet. “The Bling Ring” star and presenter Emma Watson did the unthinkable. She wore pants. In what will most likely be the most divisive sartorial choice of the evening, the 23-year-old arrived in a Christian Dior pant/gown hybrid. Elegance in the front, party in the back. She sported silk cigarette pants (and a lot of skin) behind what, at first glance, was nothing more than a simple, short sleeve gown.
