> GOAL LINE

KATY I had to work until 7 p.m., so I headed straight there from the office.

BRET I shined my shoes because they were a little dirty.

KATY I was in a calm state of denial, then I got nervous.

BRET I arrived just a minute before Katy.

KATY I walked in and the place was empty.

BRET I told the host I had a reservation and waited at the bar.

KATY I couldn’t see him when I walked in, but as I walked toward the bar, he stood up.

BRET She was cute and had a nice smile.

KATY He was tall, which is good. He had nice eyes and was well dressed.

BRET She seemed friendly, so I knew I wouldn’t have to worry about awkwardness.

KATY He seemed a little nervous — just the right amount. I was nervous, too.

> FACE-OFF

BRET Our date was scheduled during the Bruins’ Game 7.

KATY We decided to eat at the bar so we could watch.

BRET She’s got a great sense of humor. We talked about everything.

KATY We talked about our jobs, where we grew up, school.

BRET We decided to share rounds of appetizers so we could try lots of things. It’s more fun that way.

KATY We never ended up getting a main course, but we did get dessert.

BRET The service was phenomenal.

KATY I actually got the bartender’s phone number so I could set him up with one of my friends.

BRET The whole night was a good time.

KATY He had a great personality, and the more we talked, the more I was interested to learn more.

> POWER FORWARD

BRET The date lasted almost three hours. It flew by, though.

KATY We would have kept going, but it was a weeknight, so I thought it was best to call it.

BRET The bartender gave us the check and we both got up.

KATY We both live on the same T line, so we walked to the train together and rode it home.

BRET My subway stop was before hers.

KATY [Our goodbye] was kind of rushed because we were on the T.

BRET We hugged and said good night.

KATY We had already exchanged numbers, so it was a quick goodbye but not awkward at all.

BRET I think it would be great to go out again.

KATY I would be open to hanging out with him again. I had a lot of fun.  — Compiled by Katy Rushlau
