Boston Globe wins seven local Emmys

The Boston Globe took home seven Boston/New England Emmy Awards Saturday night after being nominated 15 times in nine categories for visual and multimedia storytelling.

Darren Durlach won Emmys in the outstanding photographer — News Within 24 Hours, outstanding arts/entertainment specialty report, and outstanding feature news report — light feature categories. Some of his winning works included “Man with no arms throws out first pitch” and “Dancing Cop.”

Globe graphic designer Martin Gee shared the “outstanding arts/entertainment specialty report” Emmy with Durlach on their piece “Penguin Love.”

Scott LaPierre won in the outstanding video journalist and outstanding historical/cultural feature — segment.

Multiple Globe employees won an Emmy in the outstanding politics/government specialty report category for their collaborative work on “Parents react to Boston school assignments.”

Globe photographer Dina Rudick won in the outstanding photographer — no time limit category for a composite of videos.

Rudick also won an Emmy in the outstanding documentary category while freelancing. Rudick won for her piece “Practice: Change – the Africa Yoga Project Story.”

“The frontier of our journalism continues to expand,” Globe editor Martin Baron said. “These Emmys signal that our pioneering work in video ranks at the top of the field. We’re immensely gratified by the recognition.”
