A 32-year-old man was arrested today after robbing a TD Bank branch and fleeing in a vehicle with another person, Lowell police said.

Antonio Montanez, who listed his address as homeless, was arrested for the armed robbery of the bank as well as numerous motor vehicle violations committed during his attempt to elude officers, police said in a statement.

Around 10:40 a.m., Lowell police responded to a call for a robbery at the TD Bank at 350 Westford St. After receiving a description of the suspect, who was considered to be armed and dangerous, and a direction of travel, an officer spotted the suspect.

Police tried to get him to stop his vehicle but he sped off in a “reckless and hazardous manner” until he reached the neighboring town of Dracut and crashed into a residence, the statement said.

Both the suspect and a passenger fled on foot but were soon apprehended by police.

Karen Marie Destefano, 26, the passenger, was later charged as an accomplice in the robbery. Montanez and Destefano will be arraigned in Lowell District Court on Monday.

The robbery is still under investigation.
