Two dead after wrong-way driver causes four-vehicle crash on Mass. Pike in Ludlow
Two men are dead after a driver going in the wrong direction caused a four-vehicle crash on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Ludlow Friday night, according to State Police.
The 84-year-old driver who caused the accident was heading east on the westbound side of Interstate 90 when his vehicle collided head-on with another car near Exit 6 around 8:30 p.m., said State Police in a statement. A 29-year-old man was behind the wheel of the other vehicle.
Both the victims were taken to Baystate Medical Center with serious injuries, and were pronounced dead at the hospital, State Police said.
David Procopio, spokesman for the State Police, said that there were additional injuries in the collision, but did not provide details. The entire westbound side of I-90 was closed for nearly two and a half hours, until about 10:54 p.m., he said.
The identities of the victims have not been released. The crash was still under investigation and further details were not available late Friday night.
