Coast Guard searching for kayaker in Swampscott after finding empty vessel
The Coast Guard is searching for a missing kayaker in Swampscott after finding his empty kayak on the beach about two hours after his girlfriend reported him missing, according to a Coast Guard spokesman.
Mayran Lisoboich, 23, left Fisherman’s Beach in Swampscott at about 4 p.m. on Saturday and was fishing in the area, according to a Coast Guard press release. He was not wearing a lifejacket, according to the release.
His girlfriend reported him missing at about 7 p.m., and the Coast Guard sent a Coast Guard Station Point Allerton 47-foot Motor Life Boat and an Air Station Cape Cod MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter after him, according to the release.
At around 8:40 p.m., searchers recovered his kayak on a beach close to Fisherman’s Beach, said Adam Stanton,Coast Guard spokesman. Stanton said it was not clear whether the kayak had been dragged onto the beach or if it just washed up there.Evan Allen can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org
