Two young men suffer life-threatening injuries in separate shootings

Two men in their late teens or early 20s suffered life-threatening injuries tonight in separate shootings in Mattapan and Dorchester, Boston Police said.

There was no indication that the shootings were connected, according to police.

One of the men was shot at 53 Sanford St. in Mattapan, said Officer James Kenneally, a department spokesman. The call reporting that shooting came in at 8:40 p.m., he said.

Detectives at the scene were standing in front of the driveway of a two-story white house around 9:30 p.m., and the immediate vicinity was taped off.

A woman who lives around the corner and would only give her name as Mia, said she did not hear any shots but later saw the victim on a stretcher. She said he was not moving or talking.

Mia and other bystanders said the ambulance pulled away slowly with no sirens sounding.

The area is normally quiet, Mia said.

“It’s no violence over here at all,” she said.

The other man was shot two hours earlier, about 2 miles away at 57 Wheatland Ave. in Dorchester. The call for that shooting came in at 6:41 p.m.

At the scene of the Wheatland Avenue shooting late tonight, a Boston police van was parked on the street as detectives searched the front porch. Neighbors across the street declined to comment.

No further information was immediately available on either shooting.
