Authorities search for man who allegedly tried to kidnap 8-year-old girl from Whitman driveway
Authorities are searching for a man who allegedly attempted to kidnap an 8-year-old girl from her grandparent’s driveway in Whitman on Saturday night, town police said in a statement.
The man went up to the girl and attempted to pull her from the driveway along Washington Street shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday, the statement from Whitman Police said.
She freed herself, screamed and ran toward the house.
The man then ran south on Washington Street, police said.
He is described as being a dark-skinned black man, about 30 to 40 years old, with a thin build and between 6 feet, one inch and 6 feet, four inches tall, the statement said. He has pink scarring on his face and was wearing a black shirt, black pants with a wallet chain and a black baseball hat.
State Police troopers, including members of the K-9 unit, along with officers from Whitman, Hanson, East Bridgewater, Brockton and the Plymouth County Sheriff Department searched the area, but did not find the man, according to the statement.
