Worker pinned, injures foot at Boston construction site
A construction worker suffered minor injuries to one of his feet this afternoon when a wooden form containing concrete buckled, pinning him for a hour.
The worker’s foot was trapped between the form holding the concrete and the side of the hole in which the form was placed.
The incident happened at about 2:30 p.m. at One Channel Center in South Boston, said Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald.
The worker was “checking on the form to make sure it was holding the concrete in place,” MacDonald said.
Two fire department technical rescue teams used special tools to free the worker, who was conscious, while his medical condition was monitored by Boston EMS, MacDonald said.
It took an hour to free him. He was taken to a local hospital, but is expected to return to work Tuesday, said Kim Steimle, a Suffolk Construction spokeswoman.
“It took some time, but they wanted to make sure that it was done as carefully as possible,” Steimle said.
The US Occupational Safety and Health Administration agency was inspecting the site this afternoon.
