Enjoy the day, because rain, chill are on the way
New Englanders should get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather, because rain is on the way, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures today will get close to 70, said meteorologist Alan Dunham. Boston will see temperatures in the high 60s and areas northwest of the city will see even warmer weather.
Skies will be mostly sunny today, Dunham said. The Bay State will be breezy, with wind gusts as high as 25 miles per hour in the city, he said.
But the mild temperatures and warm sunshine will soon be replaced by clouds and rain, thanks to a cold front slowly crossing the region.
The rain will start to fall during the overnight hours and commuters will need umbrellas Tuesday morning.
“I would be surprised if it wasn’t there for the morning commute,” Dunham said. “It may even stick around for the afternoon commute.”
The front will move offshore during the day Tuesday, he said.
The sun will return for the rest of the week and temperatures will get chilly, in the mid-40s.
“We’re going from 10 to 15 degrees above normal to about 10 degrees below normal,” Dunham said. “Our normal high for this time of year is in the low 50s.”
