An injured owl rescued from the MBTA Green Line tracks this morning had to be euthanized because he had a wing injury, the MBTA said.
The small owl, promptly named Hoot by the workers who found him, was found lying on the tracks near Waban Station in Newton around 7:45 a.m.
“The owl happily greeted the MBTA first responders on scene,” said T spokesman Joshua Robin. The workers then put Hoot in a box and transported him to a local animal hospital for treatment.
At the hospital, they learned the bird had lost a wing and it had to be euthanized, Robin said.
