Two sentenced in 2010 slaying of mother of four

Two men were sentenced in Suffolk Superior Court today for the murder of a young mother of four and the shooting of another man in 2010, the Suffolk district attorney’s office said.

Kadeem Foreman, 23, of Dorchester was given the mandatory life in prison sentence for the second-degree murder of Toneika Jones, 24, who was shot in the foyer of a building on 183 Harvard St. as she walked in with some friends to a party, prosecutors said. Foreman will be eligible for parole in 15 years.

Also caught in the gunfire was a 19-year-old man who was shot in the arm and recovered.

Suffolk Superior Court Judge Judith Fabricant handed down shorter, concurrent sentences for Foreman’s convictions of unlawful possession of a firearm and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley’s office said.

Terrell Rainey, 23, of Dorchester faces three to five years in state prison for involuntary manslaughter in the case, said district attorney’s spokesman Jake Wark. Rainey was also acquitted of firearm offenses and charges in the second victim's shooting.

Both Jones and the 19-year-old man were taken to Boston Medical Center, where Jones was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound to her abdomen.

On May 22, 2012, officers nearby heard gunshots around 1:15 a.m., and witnessed two men backing away from the building. Police saw Foreman fire one more shot into the building before both fled from the scene. Police found the two men hiding two blocks away in an empty lot on Gleason Street.

Police found firearms — a .38-caliber revolver and a .380-caliber semiautomatic handgun — along the route. A third firearm, whose bullets struck the victims, was not recovered, prosecutors said.

The men’s trial was postponed in June after Suffolk Superior Court Judge Linda Giles found that two of the potential witnesses were among four men stabbed during the daytime on Beacon and Tremont streets the previous day. Prosecutors then said it might be connected to a past feud, rather than to the trial. The two potential witnesses were never called to testify.
