Two more $1m Powerball winners step forward in Mass.
Massachusetts Lottery
Lisa and Wade Bartlett won $1 million in this week’s record Powerball drawing.
The last two $1 million Powerball ticket holders in Massachusetts have come forward to claim their prize, according to the state lottery.
Four tickets bought in the Bay State matched five of the six numbers drawn Wednesday, missing the record-high jackpot by just the Powerball number, said Beth Bresnahan, spokeswoman for the Massachusetts lottery.
The winning numbers were 5-16-22-23-29 and a Powerball of 6.
Lisa Bartlett of Worcester came forward with her winning ticket on Friday and will receive $700,000 after taxes, Bresnahan said.
Bartlett, 51, is a teacher and said she and her husband, Wade, planned to buy two new cars on the way home from the lottery’s Braintree headquarters, Bresnahan said.
Bartlett told lottery officials that winning this kind of money was exciting and would help her family live an easier life, Bresnahan said.
She purchased her quick-pick ticket at Galaxy Newsstand at 385 Southbridge St. in Auburn. The store will receive a $10,000 commission on the sale, Bresnahan said.
David Cowan, an art dealer who lives in Boston, also came forward Friday with a ticket worth $1 million, Bresnahan said.
Cowan, 54, bought 20 quick-pick tickets, one of which turned out to be pretty lucky. He also received the the one-time lump payment of $700,000 after taxes.
He plans to take a vacation and invest money for his retirement, Bresnahan said.
He purchased his lucky tickets at the 7-Eleven at 1306 Washington St. in Boston, which will receive a $10,000 commission.
The two other people who bought tickets in Massachusetts worth $1 million claimed their prizes Thursday.
Mary K. Gilmore bought two quick-pick tickets at the Tedeschi Store on Union Street in Rockland, one for her and one for her boss, Bresnahan said.
Gilmore kept the right one.
The 49-year-old Rockland woman, who works as a mortgage loan officer, plans to use the cash to pay off her family’s mortgage and her children’s student loans, Bresnahan said.
Jeremy R. Stephenson, 42, a software consultant, also won $1 million, purchasing a ticket at the City Convenience Store at 23 Beacon St. near the State House in downtown Boston, Bresnahan said. Both Gilmore and Stephenson collected the lump sum payment of $700,000 after taxes.
Stephenson, of Arab, Ala., told lottery officials he will use the money to pay bills and help out his mom, Bresnahan said.
