Fire on Sunday in Weymouth is deemed arson; follows string of blazes in Southeastern Massachusetts
A fire in a vacant building on Main Street in Weymouth was intentionally set, the state fire marshal’s office said.
The blaze, which occurred early Sunday morning, came after a series of arson fires set in Southeastern Massachusetts that are currently under investigation.
“We are obviously concerned that any intentionally set fire in this region of the state could be connected to the series of fires we are investigating, but it is too soon to say at this point in time,” State Fire Marshal Stephen D. Coan said in a statement.
No further information on the incident was immediately available.
Coan urges anyone with information on the Weymouth fire to call the statewide arson hotline at 800-682-9229, or the Weymouth fire or police departments.Sarah N. Mattero can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
